Mini carpet anemone keeps splitting...good or bad??

I got a mini carpet from Paradidle and shortly after the 1 split into 3. Now another 1 split into 2. So I have a total of 4 of these little guys.

Is it a good or bad thing?!? Do they normally split this quickly?? If I could only get my GBTA to split.

My water quality is great minus the ick the PBT had 2 days ago.

Well, you can look at it a couple ways. You have things splitting that look cool and there is a desire for, unfortunately not as much in this area because everyone has them. Check the RC selling forums, there used to be a huge demand for them

It's not a bad thing or the new organism would be dying and probably the parent one too. Typcially with mushrooms and anemones, they attempt to move to their preferred spot in a new tank. As they move they can easily leave behind some tissue which will almost 100% of the time become another shroom or anemone. I've pried shrooms off of rocks before and have seen such a small sliver of tissue become another mushroom.

When I got that anemone, it split instantly into two and it hasn't split yet since them. That's probably due to the fact that its really wedged itself into a crack and it happy there.

hey i would like one of those if u want to sell one, are they okay with corals?

You should really have a mature tank (6months+) before getting an anemone. PLEASE...for the animal's sake and for the sake of your wallet, do you research first.

They will move, but typically since these are small, they will find a crack and sit there, unless there's high flow. They can also sit on the substrate in low flow areas.

Well it does look like that's what happened this time. It did look like 1/4 of the original anemone had been torn away (I thought someone was eating it). Then a couple days later there is another complete anemone on the same rock.

Makes sense.

Thanks!

ABC Aquarium in Fairport has some nice ones...there's a solid green one there I may have to add to our collection...maxi's are what I'm referring to.

I was just wondering if anyone in buffalo frags these and has some to sell. I checked ARC and there prices were not very good considering I could get 3 nicely colored ones shipped for one of theres. I already found someone that I am buying the minis from.

Does any member here propagate there maxis?
