Hi guys!

I just got my mitratus butterfly yesterday for my 150g reef. I acclimated him slowly and he seems to be doing okay now but hes not touching any of the food that i feed my other fish.

I tried pellets, mysis soaked in vitamins, my own frozen preparation(which all my other fish go ballistic over) but he seems totally uninterested. Hes not even picking on my lps!

Please help!

Thanks!

Keep trying meaty foods like shrimp, scallop, and mysis. I'm surprised you didn't QT a $300+ butterfly fish to at least get him eating :eek2:

Like peter said, its best to qt...if for no other reason but to just get him eating in a peaceful, non-competitive environment. Also, if you need to medicate he's ready for it in a qt instead of being in the display and having to stress him out to catch him.

I tried a chopped up clam from the seafood counter at the local supermarket and it worked with my copperbanded butterfly.

Raw frozen chopped up shrimp, scallops, clams, & mussels are the staple foods that will sustain the fish for years & make them healthy & plump. I'd work with these foods first before trying blackworms.

mitratus butterflies and many others in the roaops sub genus are some of the hardiest of all butterflies.

most will begin feeding almost immediately or within the first day or two. i won't worry so much if it's too healthy but as said above, it's best to quarantine.

if it's not eating after a week, then you should start worrying. for the roaps butterflies, more than 1 week of not eating, is a cause for concern!

hello there ryan! ryan you can start feeding it with "halaan"... it will work for sure...
