Mixing candy Basslet with peppermint hogfish (B. opercularis)

I am interested in having both of these fish in a 120g cube. Should I worry about them getting along since they sport somewhat similar body shape and stripes?

I had a swissguard Basslet and when I put a yellow candy hogfish the Basslet came out less. He at least used to come out of the caves here and there but once the hogfish arrived the Basslet only came out for feeding. I am assuming it might be even worse in your case as peppermint hog is larger in size than the yellow candy.

Yea, I worry about that. I just got in this Candy from a fellow reefer and he is out and about quite a bit through his first day. I don't want to see that change but I'd love to get the hogfish!

Enjoy your new fish. You're gonna like it a lot especially as the time goes by. They are quite funny to observe as they move around paranoid that someone's after them. Lol.

The funniest thing my swissguard did was pretend to be dead to lure hermit crabs to himself and then attack them and try to get them out of their shells. Very funny as he rarely succeeded.

From personal experience, I would recommend against adding the Opercularis. In my case, I added a small Neopercularis to a tank full of wrasses and a Candy Basslet. He was the last fish added to an established group of peaceful fish. It didn't take long for the Hogfish to start harassing the other fish, including the Candy Basslet. I tried to put him back in an acclimation box for a few days to see if it made any difference. In my case, it did not, so the Hogfish went to a friend's tank.
They are very beautiful, IMO, but they are not peaceful.

I had a pair of Candy Basslets for about 4 1/2 years, recently lost the remaining one if the pair. I was sooooo bummed!!! Having a pair was the BEST. Maybe again someday :). For now this single one from a good home came my way and I am super stoked to have him. He is very active.

Peppermint are mean. Mine attacked wrasses and tried to eat the other fishes eyes.

Ewwwww, that's just plain nasty and mean!!

Really good to hear your experience, after a little research and hearing all of this I am definitely not adding this gorgeous fish to my little fish family!!

Most hogfish are jerks, as a general rule.

Good to know!! I already deal with a semi jerk. I have a very punky resplendent hybrid angel that is mean when you're not looking. I am slowly bringing my fish out of QT from ich outbreak earlier this year and he is going to be dead last. I hope he leaves everyone alone as I have added some new fish while I have the opportunity.

Thanks for all of the feedback, totally appreciate it!!
