Then you get home from the store; put em under half decent lighting (this is a 20$ 14k from lights64 on ebay)...
 
nice... I got a small colony of acan from a guy as a trade for some plain jane zoas and its now orange and maroon.. It really colored up nicely for me :D
 
Yeah you had to see em at the store, bland beige/brown with stripes (almost walked right by, thought it was just a piece of live rock at first).

They're a bit washed out in the picture, but I expect they'll look a lot better in a few weeks. Plus how can you turn down a nice big colony for less than a buck a polyp? :D
 
hey it ain't all bad being brown.. this is my current fav lord in my tank.. and it's brown as can be!

I've been feeding it for months, hasn't coloured up..think It needs less light.
 
Hi. from Spain

I had an acan like this one and after six moths of 150 W HQI it became red (very very red) and another became very green with red stripes so maybe you will get surprised.

I think your right :) I got an echinata that was a rich mottled brown color, put it under totall shade,4 months later presto chango purple and blue!

when you guys are saying color up

usually with less or more light?
i just bought one and it is a pretty green with a hint of orange in it. just don't know if i need less light or more?
btw that looks like it will be a beautiful piece.
