mnml's rimless

So the idea with Anthis is to feed the flake food 2 or three times a day via an auto feeder. Then again they will eat when you personally feed the tank once, or every other day?

Marty

Hi Marty

That's pretty much how I feed them. A cube of mysis/brine every other day along with flakes/pellets 3x a day.

Sorry to hear about the lose of your fish. Do you have any idea why the died?

Hello Gondore

I believe one of the misbar chromis had a parasite which spread to the other fish.

Thanks Andrew. I'm currently feeding formula 1 and prime flakes 3x a day via an Ehiem auto feeder and mysis/krill every other day. They seem to eat everything I throw in the tank. Not a picky eater whatsoever.

Thanks Tran for the reply. How do find the Ehiem auto feeder and how do you attach it to your rimless tank? Any pictures? I'm interested in purchasing an auto feeder but haven't read many good reviews of any brand.

I really like the Eheim feeder. It's quite easy to set up and dispenses the food well. I've tried the a few of them, including the Eheim EH3585200, but in the end I ended up keeping the Eheim EH3581. I suggest using a feeding tray with it to help prevent food from goin into the overflow. A local reefer built me the acrylic attachment for the feeder.

Tran, how are the bio pellets working out so far? How much flow do you have running thru them?

Hi Rick,

It's still too early to tell but I do notice the algae on the Vortechs are receeding. A very light dusting of cyano is starting to appear but I started dosing MB7 to see if it helps. I will post some pictures of the before/after in a few weeks when I get more results. Here's what the flow looks like, sorry for the camera angle. :fun5:

Yea, it looks like a good amount of flow thru the pellets. I have been doing some reading on them and read it is importand to keep the flow good thru them s ye can see them moving like your are. Be nice to see the outcome of using them. They seem to have alot of potential.

I'll let you know how it turns out. I hope the flow is adequate, Warner Marine has some similar pellets but they recommend lower flow on theirs. So far I am noticing less algae on the glass and the cyano have not increased.

sorry for your lost Tran. Thats a nice rig you set up for the auto feeder. I just picked up a couple barletts also. Have you noticed your nitrates/phosphates going up due to increased feeding? Interested in the results of the pellets. How long does it usually take to see some decent results?

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike. How do you like the Barletts?

I haven't noticed any rise in nitrates or phosphates, both are undetectable at the moment. I'm almost at the 1 month mark with the pellets and I am starting to notice some changes. The brown algae on the my Vortechs are almost completely gone, less aglae on the glass, and polyp extension on my SPS are much more noticeable. The slight dusting of cyano has gone away but I'm not sure if it was due to dosing MB7 or just part of the cycle with the pellets. So far I'm happy with the results.

That sounds like some good results. I might have to look into it. My vortech is covered in diatoms and so is my sandbed. Running out of gfo for 2 weeks waiting for brs to deliever me some more didn't help either lol. I love the barletts. Their colors are so bright and they always swimming around the tank. They rarely hide which I like.

Trans, your setup looks sweet, subscribed.

Hope the NP pallet work for you, I am digging it after seen the recent TOTM.

Let me know if you decided to try them out.

Thanks for the nice feedback, Ryan. I hope the pellets have a positive impact on my tank like it did for the current TOTM. :fingers crossed:

Hi Tran and thanks for the pics and info. Yes, the feeding tray is a superb idea!! Did you make that black stand/holder for the feeder? Looks like it will be necessary for the rimless tank.

You're welcome, Andrew. A local reefer (robojet) was kind of enough to make it for me. She says it's very easy to make if you have some acrylic laying around.

Must say, I love your tank. I'm a sucker for Barlett's and think they are among the most beautiful fish. I will have them in my tank one day. Again, great job.

damn Tran! one of my anthias jumped out today. Just a few days ago my marine beta jumped out too =*( I wonder if the two dispar anthias i have is harassing my other fishes enough to make them jump out? I think i will get rid of my two dispar anthias + blue tang (hes so sketchy) and get a couple more barletts, good idea? lol how are the np pellets working out?

That's a bummer. Do you know if you have more than 1 male in the tank? I'm not sure with the dispar but with the Barletts, I've seen them to be very territorial and bully the other Anthia and smaller fish. I ended up with 2 males and had to trade one of them for a female and now everyone is happy.

I'm getting very good results with the pellets. So far SPS are starting to color back up and am still getting great polyp extension. One thing I have noticed is an explosion of sponge everywhere in my sump and overflow chamber. According to the N/P thread, I guess others are getting seeing the same growth in their tanks as well.

your tank is making the voices in my head tell me evil things about restarting my tank and modeling it after yours.

update a FTS when you have a chance, i'm interested in seeing what kind of growth you have.

Keep up the good work.
