If I had that tank, I hope that room is sealed from the rest of the house for humidity concerns. I would most likely use banks of T5s across the top to enclose the top and create a cover to seal the top. That would be my major concern.

that is a nice design, what material did you use to build the doors?

I used 1/2" sandleply from home depot. Coated in kilz and "bitter chocolate"

Very different approach. I don't think I've ever seen a tank directly on the floor. Would make stand up viewing different, although the top downs would be cool.

Need some shots of the fish room and support equipment. Also interested on the long term SPS growth under those T-5's

I noticed after the post...

Interesting the system has no way for top water extraction. And very little flow, as the SPS grow, if they do. He will need a lot more flow.

I still like the lines of the system, somethings you just need to compromise..

ricks, you still arent looking close enough...lol. There is a pillar in the center of the tank (surrounded by corals) which contains the overflow & surface skimmer. I would know, I am planning on using a similar method on my 500g which will be 6x6x2 and 360 viewable thanks to a central overflow w/ tunzes hidden inside.

This shows it better:

I believe there are stream pumps hidden in the rockwork and their cords are run through the overflow and out the bottom.

I didnt want to post any pics just yet because this is still a work in progress but this thread needs more pics. Here is my 60 cube. My dad and I made the stand. Whats left on my list figure out how I want my lighting, hung or hood, hide cords and plumbing, and build a proper sump. Dont mind the child lock on the stand I have a 14 month old who loves to splash in the sump.

I don't mind it, in fact I love it, and everyone with children should use safety devices on tank cabinets, IMO.

Let me know when you get that tank done...I've been aching to do a similar tank since I started the hobby, but to the best of my knowledge no one in the area has one. That, and tuition is eating up all of my tank budget :mad2: Still, when your plans come to fruition I would love to come check it out.

Stupid education...*grumble grumble*

It's not his tank.

I agree with the Dudester. My tank is locked at all times. Yours looks fine. If you ever need to replace it for any reason - you could use a locking mechanism that requires a magnetic key. I use magnetic locks on the doors of my home theater cabinets. Like these...

I like the tank on the floor with the central overflow. Not so keen on his livestocking. Seems like he is throwing anything into the tank with those NPS. I cant see him target feeding them or pump feeding them in such a large tank over a long period

Still, a nice tank

It's not his tank.

Re-read his post...he talks about plans for his 500 gallon system.
