Great thread!

I cant believe I actually missed this one for so long!

I really think Mcliffy2's tank. It is easy on the eyes and modern:

I really do like the look of that room and tank. The bar chairs are nice in that you can navigate the room without having to avoid the backs. The T5 fixture really is the best for a sleek look that is still affordable.

Mcliffy2's tank is one of my favs. He really does have exceptional taste.

Thanks all...but I have to give some credit to my aids (south park reference)...in all seriousness, Eric (glassbox-design) lives down the street, and has been a huge help on the aesthetic decisions.

Has anyone mentioned these fluval osaka aquariums? They're pretty clean and modern looking with rounded edges and such. Anyone seen these up close?

Yeah I have seen them at my LFS. They are pretty nice but I think the tank looks kind of cheap. The stand looked ok though.

If the stand comes in something other than that woodgrain I'd love it...that looks like cheap laminate veneer and reminds me of the top of every desk I sat in way back during elementary school.

The local fish store has those Fluval Osakas in. They come in 3 sizes and I have to say they're very very nice. The stands are alot better looking in person, and I don't even like that style.

The fit and finish on the light and hanging kit looked nice. Curved glass always concerns me. I do however really like the curved corners, and I have to say the trim is nicer than the stainless trim on the 144 Oceanic.

This is the first product I've seen in a long time at an LFS that made me say...hmm....where can I put one of those. The only problem is they don't come drilled.

redwarrior, Agreed! Thanks for the laugh.

As much as I love Mike's (Mcliffy2) new tank... I would not classify it as modern and I am sure Mike would agree. It's more traditional meets contemporary safari :p

At least Fluval put some thought into the design, but I find it very unattractive. The finish looks extremely cheap... Chrome, frosted glass, and fake veneer? No thanks.

heh...I knew that was coming ;) I do agree tho. standling alone, the tank/bar/barstools are fairly modern, but I don't think the textured paint job and african & asian pieces surrounding the tank are necessarily modern.

Ha, you know me well  You've got mail re: pay it forward.

You know a le corbusier chaise and white eames elipitical would go well with the tank.... ;)

Just a general comment/question: it seems, from just looking at these 37 pages of posts (whew), that many of these rimless tanks do not appear to have an overflow box. Is that truly the case? Are these sumpless designs?

most likely external overflows not invisible internally to the eyes
