Modern Reef Aquariums

don't know if mine qualifies, but i built the sleek black stand myself out of 1"-9 ply-plywood. and feel that it isn't as "modern" as some, but is still very clean and modern in it's own right. what do you think?

time to dig this thread up again!!!

These are form ADA USA click on the galleries and look at the reef tanks absolutely blow away http://www.aquariumdesigngroup.com

Some very nice displays, but in each one there is something "off". They like to be very matchy matchy, and use loud textures... also known as trying too hard ;)

That reef at the actual ADG store is very beautiful. A real grotto-like feel to it.

I'd like to deal get a better looking light -- I tried the Giessseman pendants for nanos, but they were defective. Any ideas? The 20" of the tank makes a small light a must, but I love the 250W MH.

Have you considered building a floating canopy/fixture? With the Ricordia I'd suggest a high kelvin MH and some blue supplement to really make them fluoresce.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas on my dilemma? Justin? Flint&Eric?
With that design there isn't much you can do. Keep the colors simple, sand it well, and dont skimp on the paint. Focus on the aquariums themselves... and keep the plumbing and wiring hidden.

With the picture you showed I don't see anything that is modern. (Not that that's a bad thing.)

see i think it is modern, just not futuristic. everything i have is new, sleek, and low profile, but doesnt have stainless steel floating pendants and an orb shape. i built mine, not aliens, just kidding.

I need to find a 250 watt pendent to go over my new cube. I feel like the available options like the PFO mini pendent and the sunlight supply stuff is to industrial looking any ideas i know Giesemann makes a 250 watt NOVA pendent but I'm not sure i entirely like to look...

Any suggestions??? I would like to use a light bar or maybe brackets coming off the wall to mount it

I really like that pendent system i was thinking about sticking a few of them, over my 120XL But i think they will be too big for my little 30 gall cube

I had a bad experience with the Nova. One of them was defective (buzzing noise that you could hear 30 feet away). They also didn't seem to have very good reflectors (in my ignorant opinion....)

I like the idea of a floating canopy -- does anyone have a good link / advice on how to start (would have to take it to the people who made my stand....I'm totally clueless on DIY). My current lighting is Phoenix 14K, which looks good during the day, but is really blue at night when there's no outside lighting.

i wanna build a clean sleek looking stand and floating canopy... but I don't have a lot of great ideas that cover all of my needs... just build a box put in retro lighting and find some way to mount it? what do you guys think about the mounting trees from zero edge. I wander if it would support a "light box" far enough out over a thirty inch tank http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...duct_Code=ZE-SLB2&Category_Code=mounthardware

cambarr the 24" giesemann infiniti would be sweet http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...uct_Code=GM-250-653-K&Category_Code=Giesemann

I am running a Aqua Medic 250 pendant over a 30 gallon cube and love it. Light is only 11 inchs wide so it looks sleek up there hanging.

Hey All..
im looking for suspended light hanging ideas. I have very high ceilings in my house and i would like to maybe find a bracket that comes off the wall to suspend my fixture from.l i am looking for ideas??? something similar to this but verry clean and sleak looking. Any ideas on a pre made item that i could use???

I just wanted to say that I love this thread. I've read it all the way through from page 1.

I really wish I had discovered this before starting my tank. I was all set up to do a traditional stand/canopy with decorative wood trim, but now I find that I want to go a completely different direction.

i think the ADA stuff blows the elos stuff away. ADA's style is modern because it is very sleek and very functional. elos goes out of its way to be modern. it doesn't really seem like they put any thought into convenience and so in turn the well being of its inhabitants. It doesn't seem like progress which is what modernism is about. ADA is the model of a modern approach to aquarium design.

Why do you say Elos products are not convenient or badly thought out ?

Just my opinion. I've looked over a bunch of their stuff posted here and thought 'that stand looks really unsafe' or 'that looks like a real PITA to do mainentnance on'. Now i'm actually looking at thier normal stuff and it seems good. I still like the ADA approach better.

The ADA system you posted would be great, if you didn't want to...I don't know...have a sump...or ANY equipment...at all...
