Modern Reef Aquariums

With all of that apparent sump space you should really start the trend on doing a high/low tide thing. Some people were talking about it in a thread a while ago, whereas in some reefs during low tide the corals are all exposed to the air for a short while a couple times a day. That would be a lot of fun to incorporate into a modern system.

Wow, some beautiful designs here. I dont know how I missed this thread. I have some ideas for my next tank.

Nope dieselgrk Youre SECOND LOL

ADDDO give us specs or something?????

The tank is 100x80x30 cm (240 litres), stand without aquarium is 115cm. Drilled with 3 holes, 1 for Durso 1 for return and one extra. I built the stand and cabinetry myself using IKEA kitchendoors amongst other stuff.

Skimmer i will run is Bubble Magus 150 rated for 600-800 litres

2x Tunze 6045

Returnpump Aquabee 2000/I

Lightning undecided but leaning towards T5

I will use a minimum of LR to make for a open scape.

Thats actually quite an interesting idea!

Just an update from when I last posted pics last December. 85g SPS system.

I had color/growth issues until the last few months. Primary changes include increasing the photoperiod to 9 hours from 5 or 6, and feeding more food.

Love the look of this tank - can you post a link to your build thread please. Thanks.

You know, I did make a build thread but dang if I can find it! I swear I put it in the SoCal reefers forum, titled something like 85g SPS Build Thread.

If you find it, let me know, lololol!

My system's not terribly complicated. Just use a Profilux doser (Bulk Reef Supply 2-part,), 250w Radium in a Lumenmax Elite reflector, Galaxy electronic ballast, Tunze Nanowave Box, ATB 840 Skimmer, dose about 5 ml of vodka a day, 9 hour photoperiod, feed pinch of flake food a day, 1x per week feed Coral Frenzy (1/4 tsp or so).

I did add some nitrate to my system about a month ago, via a freshwater supplement. Corals seemed to like it but who knows. Nitrate never registers in my system, so I wanted to see what would happen if I had the tiniest bit show on the test kit.

I feed my rose anemone a good blast of PE Mysis each week. I had it a month and it split twice, lol....not a bad thing as it was a super expensive coral from Cherry Corals :)

I keep my alk high 7's or 8.0....whatever as long as my morning pH isn't below 8 I'm happy.
