Mollies & s/w diseases

I've always wondered how resistant f/w mollies would be to s/w diseases, like Cryptocaryon & Amyloodinium? I always assumed the same as any other s/w fish, after they had been converted. But perhaps I am wrong. Thoughts?

I assume any f/w disease they were carrying would perish once exposed to s/w. So no need to QT them. Thoughts?

Interesting question. My educated guess would be that they would be equally susceptible but I have never thought to consider the issue.

Someone on another forum was using them in their frag tank, so I wondered if they would be the "perfect fish" for a frag tank or permanent fish QT. Assuming they weren't able to host s/w diseases, being originally a f/w fish... but you're probably right.

Well, the freshwater version of cryptocaryon irritans is Ichthyophthirius multifiliis is you know. However, both are similar in life cycle with some exceptions; the freshwater version is highly dependent on water temperature whereas the saltwater version is not. But the effect on fish is almost identical despite the difference in media.

I would think they could still host the saltwater parasites once introduced to sw. Maybe even be more susceptible due to never forming natural immunities.

I have wondered about being able to bypass qt on them since any fw parasites should die in sw. I may just give them a shot in my frag tank now.
