What a wonderful fish. He will be missed.

Sorry about your loss. He looked amazing. What happened?

Based on your timeline, you had him for 5 years. I have not kept one but from what I've read, they are difficult to keep - which makes your 5 years a pretty good stint.

Sorry for your loss. May I ask how he was with your corals? I had one for about a month that almost decimated every coral in my tank . So I had to give him up. Truly beautiful fish though.

SPSs, anemones, and soft corals are usually ok. I have seen them decimate LPS corals and nip at clams enough to kill them with time.

Sorry to hear you lost him They sure are beautiful fish .What happen?

I am not sure. With time, my MI eventually seemed to always breathe rapidly. The episodes were worse whenever I did a water change or cultivated excess coral. I suspect chronic parasitic infection that would cycle (almost every tank has chronic parasitic colonization) and affect his gills. There have been long term discussions on diet (I have not been on the board for about a year, so things may have changed) and it is possible a MI in captivity does not receive all the proper nutritional value which it really needs to stay healthy enough to chronically resist disease. I have had one other MI and it lived almost 4 years. Very similar circumstances with that fish.

Gorgeous fish, very sorry for your loss. I am still mourning the loss of my beloved female Mandarin from 2 months ago in a moving accident. They certainly swim their way into our hearts.

You kept a MI alive for 5 years. That's very impressive. Sorry for you're loss
But thank you for sharing. Didn't think it was possible to keep them alive so long.

Thank you for sharing, that was one amazing fish. You should be proud of how long you were able to keep him. You did what many have said is impossible and without pioneers in this hobby we would still be keeping goldfish. Props to you, RIP to your friend.

Sorry to hear.

Mine is 4 1/2 years now and still seems to be doing great. I hope it lasts a lot longer, it is truly a great fish. I will be very sad when it passes.

Truly one of the most beautiful fish in this hobby! Sorry its run ended. Thanks for sharing. Next tank upgrade, it'll be my centerpiece!
