Mounting Kits stink on AGA tanks

Hello,

Need help. I bought the .244 kits as told by marine depot. Either way they where not designed for AGA tanks. It stinks. I paid 800 bucks for stuff that i can even mount right to begin with. I have a 180 Gallon AGA tank. The screws and the barrel for the suction cup is way to long. What gives? How are we suppose to mount these right on AGA tanks...

If your 180 is reef ready, try them on the overflows...works great for me. Didn't have a problem with mounting on the trim using the long screws either. I even had them mounted with the short screws just pinching the inner lip of the trim.

I assume these are Streams you are trying to mount.

Yeah the 6100 streams. The tank is not a RR one. The kits are not meant for AGA tanks so it seems. I ready some ideas. Looking for the magnets once they come out

You will have to cut the barrel to fit, it should be feasible. On Oceanic tanks it is much simpler but AGA uses a wider trim and so the barrel needs to be cut to fit the gap. A hack saw is preferred but a bread knife can work. Be sure and use a vice or pliers to hold the tube. I think a 1/2" cut from the threaded end should be the correct length, be sure you get the threaded end as the threads are needed to attach the tube to the rail with the screw. The long stainless screws should accomodate the trim. Unfortunately there are probably almost a hundred brands of aquariums world wide and some of them are just more trouble than others, acrylic, AGA and Jewel are the worst but it can be done. Our kit had to be designed to accomodate the majority of these designs and as a result is a bit of a compromise. It is more work than most people are used to but with that much force it needs to be very solid and secure so simple solutions like suction cups just don't cut it.

Didn't know that there was so many tanks.
I read some threads on what some people have done. Just like you said. Can't wait to get them magnets so this will never be a issue

When done properly, the current installation kit by Tunze for tanks ala AGA, isn't all that bad. It holds the pumps quite well in place and minumilizes motion (these guys jerk a bit when they first turn on)... I was annoyed at first with the mounting, but mine hasn't budged in several weeks, and has won me over. I agree that the written instructions are almost nill (the suction cup needing to be pierced took a long time for me to figure out. Also the fact that it doesn't function as a suction cup either, just a spacer, took time to sink in).

I was planning on the magnetic holders as well, but after looking at Tunze's artist rendering of the unit, I wonder if it will take up a lot more viewing room for Tunze's mounted on the sides of tanks like my own...?

After dealing with (and still dealing with) the Multicontroller and it's manual, the mounting kit is child's play in frustration. You need to read the Multicontroller's manual REALLY carefully (such as with two pumps only, the pump connectors must be in sockets 8 and 11 for the interval features to function). Also, it helps to do a search her on RC and read every word Roger has ever posted about streams and their controls.

On the other hand, Tunze offers incredibly innovative products VERY well made that will last and last. This gives you time, I guess, to live with the product and play with it and learn how it functions on your own...

Thanks,
I did mount one last night and all is good. I still will get the magnets. I like them closer to side. All is well as it can be.

I need to order one more kit as i only ordered one. :(
Really just need the barrel. Maybe i can find one in the hardware store?

Here in the states i bet most ower of fish and reeftanks are AGA

It depends, in the southern half Oceanic dominates the market, AGA is almost unavailable. In the Northeast it is largely Perfecto and AGA, Midwest is AGA and on the West coast Acrylic dominates. Unfortunately AGA was too concerned with someone copying there trim design to give us a piece to work with during product development so we weren't able to research it and they are virtually unavailable in Texas since this Oceanics home base.

I found a barrel in the parts bin, in has been drilled as i was using it to design a new silencer assembly in an experiment but it still has enough length to be used for this purpose. PM me your address.
