Mourning over - Flame angel widow announces engagement

Angel*Fish

cats and large squashes
2.5 months ago my male flame suddenly died. I was going to watch the female change to a male.

But....she just never seemed to want to change - so I saw a nice big male at the LFS...introduced him to the main tank this morning and after some scuffles with the Herald's angel and the Singapore, it appears everyone agrees the new flame can stay.

Pictures of the happy couple to follow :celeb3:

LOL. Nice title. I don't know why lots of people say that have problems with keeping multiple angels in their tanks and you don't seem to have any. Secrets?

Awesome!! Glad you got a mate. My pairing of flames was a little more severe. Altough there was not that much of a size difference. Now they do the "evening" dance once in a while.

Key to keeping multiple angels is size and color difference and when and how you introduce them. Introducing a fish to a tank with an established fish can be 10x worse than if you put them in at the same time.

LOL - It's probably just that I'm not afraid to risk having tear down my tank! :D Corals are secondary at my house - oops, was that out loud? ;)

Thanks -
Isn't that the truth about established angels! 2 mo. ago I tried re-pairing her & the cherub chased the flame "out of the tank" So this time I found a v-e-r-y large male & the mild mannered Singapore and very sweet Herald's were quite nasty at first --- I was pretty worried - but the flame, being spunky as flames are, knew just how to handle it.

The new flame is so big, the cherub is just glad not to be eaten - lol

I thought this was interesting>>> The little female flame seemed glad the new male was there and even actively interfered with the bullying by the Singapore and the Herald's angel- Anybody else ever observe this?

I will describe it but it helps to have examples - will have to hunt down an old thread...
Basically the male has wider black stripes (the first black "blob" doesn't count)
And the male has more blue on the rear fins - about 3-4 times the length of the blue on the females

Glad to hear your match making worked!!

I recently lost my male Argi due to a heater malfunction:( Tank was around 93..He was the only fish I lost but Its just not the same without the two Argi's chasing each other:( I am thinking of getting another...but how do I tell a male Argi:confused: Or if I get a bigger one will it assume the 'male' position?

Well I can say that my female didn't have a problem accepting a male either time I tried. It was the other fish in the tank who raised objections...so maybe it would be easier to replace the male -

Sorry about your tank and your fish - :(
