The wife and I are moving to our new house march 1 and I am curious if I should try and rinse current sand or just replace. The sand bed is 1 year old carib sea fiji pink. Suggestions on different sand if I go that route.

I Tried reusing once, i regret'd it about a week later when the Hair algae started growing, my tank was one year old, parameters werent that bad before that, i mean, i was able to keep lps very happy. i was fighting with the hair algae for 12 months. using gfo and water changes....

Just my 2 cents..

Replace - rinse it like crazy and keep a couple cups of your old substrate live to seed the new sand bed. Just did this in a rebuild and it worked like a charm.

I would not replace sand that is a year old. Especially if it was just a shallow bed and you regularly siphoned debris, that is why I asked about depth. Why not just rinse it, keeping all the beneficial bacteria? Now if you had a DSB that is a different story; much trickier- although people have moved them intact. It all depends on how clean your sand is to begin with.
