Moving to Tampa, FL

Claris or Elliot?
Hey guys, moving from Cincinnati to Tampa in a little under a month and was hoping to get some info on:

1) Diving prospects in the area (Reefs or otherwise)

2) http://www.islandwalkapartments.com/

We haven't got a chance to visit and are currently in the process of securing a unit at the above complex. Before we sign, we were hoping to get some real feedback about the place or at least area.

Thanks!! Looking forward to meeting some new people!

to the TAMPA BAY REEF CLUB ! ! !

I have seen you out on the main discussion board. Welcome to Tampa, and our Tampa forum... There are some really knowledgable reefers, and some really cool people in the area... As you can see, Mike(Mflamb), is one of the friendliest dudes around, and lives on the Tampa forum....LOL... Good luck with your move David, and even though I am in Lakeland, if you need any help at all, let me know.....

Welcome and you are going to be very close to one of our best stores. FAOIS ... I am jealous :D

Welcome to tampa. Yes you are very close to FAOIS, best store for this hobby. You're in a good area too. As far as diving, im a diver as well and theres some pretty decent places around here. A few wreck sites ect. Spear fishing is always decent, depending on the time of year. If you have a boat but no buddy, just let me know :)

I'm not familiar with that area other than driving right past your apartment on the way to Oldsmar.
When do you get here?

what are you doing out of the lounge ? ? ? ? ?

there arent many if any reefs around here i dont believe but there are wrecks tugs, ships, army tanks and stuff like that you would probably have to go to miami or keys to get reefs. also quite a few freshwater caverns and caves and holes in the ground that are nice.
if your going diving let me know id like to go =)

David,

Welcome as well. Just like everyone else said, you are located next to the best reef shop. On the other hand, I am also a diver and so is my fiance, so whenever you are up for diving let me know. Reefs are not prevalent in the Gulf, for reef diving you need to go to the East Coast. Spearfishing is supposed to be good, but I too have just moved to Tampa recently and haven't gotten a chance to get out a spear some fish. If you get a chance do a long weekend down in Key Largo, there are a bunch of great dive sites and dive companies if you don't have a boat.

Spear fishing is definitely something I would like to get into! Unfortunately I won't have a boat... but will soon!

Thanks... we'll definitely make it down to Miami. We'll have to check out the diving down there.

OMG I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE LOUNGE!! WHERE AM I?!?!!

I am sooo excited I can't wait to get down there!!! Cincinnati is such a terrible place to live, no matter what anyone tells you!

I spent 7 years in Dayton, and have a son at The College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cinci. I really didn't my winters in Ohio.

You will be right near Double Branch, one of the prettiest places in the Bay area for kayaking and canoeing. Good fishing spot also.

I lived in Fairborn, worked in Miamisburg. That was the early 80's.
Originally went there with the USAF to WPAFB.

well i live right next 2 you but you're moving next 2 two of the most expensives fish stores around, see me i drive to us 19 and get everything cheaper from holiday aquariums

Hey!!! We'll practically be neighbors. I live really close, in the Westchase community. Its a pretty nice area as far as Tampa goes. Only place I like better is South Tampa but unless your a drug lord or hit the lottery ya cant afford it. :)

I moved down here from Indianapolis about 4 years ago now and I really like it in Tampa. Kindof wierd though. You will have nice areas intermixed with not so nice areas and giant beautiful homes right next door to not so nice ones. In Indy it wasn't like that. All homes in an area were fairly similar in size etc.

Like the guy that has a REALLY NICE tank with nothing in it yet says; Welcome to the Tampa Bay Reef forum. Just kiddin ya Mike:D

tampa in general is expensive now, best place to buy a house right now is wesley chapel, but i cant move away from tampa. i love it, lotta spanish people
