Nunez,

That makes perfect sense. My sump (rubbermaid stock tank) is already drilled for my skimmer, and it is running external so I don't need either Tee.

Thanks

Mike

I think I have the same setup that you're getting (you probably figured that out already!). 2 becketts? I will be very interested to hear how yours performs. I would make sure you plumb in a ball or gate valve on your skimmer feed line (b/w the pump and the skimmer). I personally think the pump is too strong for the setup (not that that is necessarily a bad thing) which is part of the reason why I've ordered the riser for the reaction chamber.

over the top

over the top

Hi all,

well...I am officially starting over. I will be buying a 15 gallon all glass tank for my sump. Its 16 inches high. I want to avoid having to drill the tank. Can anyone tell me the exact plumbing pieces I need to do an over the top plumb to my external pump?
I already have 4 feet of 1" rigid pvc to work with. the pump is a pcx55 with 1"inlet

Ok so lets see if I got this right: one inch rigid pvc from bottom of sump up to a tee...a 90 degree fitting into T...have the top of T fitting so I can screw a threaded plug cap into the top then connect pvc pipe to bottom of T outside of tank going down to a 90 degree which will go into inlet of pump.

unscrew top of T dump water down...plug it...and there is my prime.

Does this sound correct...am I leaving anything out?

Thanks!

take care,
Jared

Hey Jaredt,

I just did a "test" run on my MR-1 last night. I wanted to see what it did. I am a newbie, so better to get aquainted with the thing now rather than when I really need to.

First try:

Coming out of sump, into a "T" with a cap. Then PVC running parallel to ground into a 90. Then PVC going straight down and connected to the intake of my pump. Poured water into. All it did was go right back into sump.

Result. Sounded like broken washing machine and didn't work.

Second try:

Reversed the 90 and the T. Had T on the pump side. Poured water into it until it filled up and it seemed to do it's thing. Primed right up :D

Now, whatever the skimmer is supposed to do after that or if I was dialing it in correctly. Thats a who different matter entirely!

Just my experience.

wrz0170,

here is a quick pic of a way, the "t" for this purpose is not needed, just fill the line from the top piece of the beckett housing,

Thanks Nunez!

So I can just eliminate that "T" section altogether. Cool. so all I do is take off the top of the beckett and fill. I Like that even better.

Speaking of Beckett. I have the older style with the friction fit. Any performance difference between what I have and the new style?

Thanks again!!

wrz0170,

the housing input was change from if I remember correctly from 3/4" to 1" some suggest this should improve performance, but if you use 1" tubing and change right at the housing to either straight to 1" or to 3/4" there shouldn't be a big difference,

the main thing I like about the new housing is that is air tight, giving better controller of the air, but try to put some teflon tape on the join and that will improve things, good luck,

Does anyone know what Andy uses to attach the gray schedule 40 PVC to the acrylic? I am trying to make my skimmer pump, pump "straight in" to the beckett.

Dumb question but is white schedule 40 PVC the same as gray schedule 40 PVC?

usually grey is sch 80.....but there might be variations

search weld on glue......i forget what it is called but they do have a pvc-acrylic glue out there. HTH

Ordered my MR-1. Can't wait to join the club. I'm a convert from ASM. They are nice people over there, but you are my new friends. :D

How long does it take to break an MC-1 in?

Mine didnt break in. LOL! it went to work as soon as i plugged the pump in. I had an asm too, and i am embarrassed on how much crud i am pulling out with the new mrc.

You never hear MRC owners talking about a break-in period. ASM says a week or two.

Creetin- I'm looking forward to being embarrassed myself. :D

anyone have a problem with the newer style becket RATTLING like krazy ? I have the gen X 55 on it. It seems like the mechanism inside the becket has cut off all my pump flow, resulting in a skimmer on a tank that does'nt work ! The pump is backed up against this loose part and the discharge cannot pump against a blocked flow. I tried to call Andy and left a message, I hope he calls me back, I need to be skimming on my tank.

poopsko24,

can you take a picture of the beckett head apart?

sometimes beckett heads make a RATTLING noise, but if should still work, to fix the noise, you take the beckett apart and glue the inner piece to one of the outer pieces, only one, with crazy glue, when dry, attach both pieces to the second outer piece and try again, the noise will be gone,

the noise is create by the inner piece bouncing and touch the outer pieces,

my2girls, welcome :D
