my2girls,

when you close the air valve there shouldn't be lots of bubles in the skimmer,

and yes there must be a a gasket in the beckett housing,

sam

my2girls,
Do you have one of these between the housing & beckett cover plate ?

Bingo! dsq I owe you. That was it. I took a gasket from an old bulkhead. Now it is quiet and the air valve works. Where else can you get advice at 2 in the morning? REEF CENTRAL!

Do you guys think I should replace the GenX-6000 with a GenX-PCX30? Submersible to pressure rated? Basically I would be doing it to reduce the vibration from the sub pump. Is this a good idea? It involves replumbing though.

I would def consider the pressure rated over the sub.
Youll get the umpfhh you need to drive it correctly.

my2girls,

here too, pressure over flow anyday,

I like genx, blue line, and panworld, if you want absolutely quiet stick to do smaller units, pcx30 should be dead silent

sam

Yeah i really like my pcx 40's they are really quiet. My iwaki driving my skimmer is alot louder, But Its also alot bigger of a pump.
I have been eyeing the pcx 70 to drive my eductors.
Gen x makes great pumps and have a nice price.

nunez1980,
I'm running a single PCX55. It's not dead silent, but not bad.

Dave

How long have you had the pump? I dont own a 55, But my 40's and they are pretty quiet. I bought mine new, and after a week or 2 break in they got a little more quiet.

Creetin,
I'm also running another PCX55 through my chiller to an educator and am impressed with the increased flow.
