Ozone Fittings

Ozone Fittings

Well after three months of using O3, my 12 dollar Ozone Injector from My Reef Creations fell apart.

Below are some pics

Anyone have any ideas of how to make a more reliable O3 injector.

For 12 bucks you think it would be a better design, ie. last longer than, be safer for owners and inhabitants of the home.

Luckly i check my equiptment, very often and found the coroded part, if not i could have O3'd the entire house i would assume.

Ate right through the JG 1/4 fitting

Doesn't aqua C, and Barr skimmers have nice O3 ports?

Bond what was ur ORP set at?
do u think u where using to much ozone? only reasond i ask is cuz u have the Enaly unit right?

cool MdM31,

yup, JG fittings crack after a few months, but I wouldn't' worry much, that piece is point of suction, so no ozone will escape to the outside air :)

I assume that piece was broken trying to take it out right?

I check and replace when needed, as with all my equipment, probes, pumps, ect.

we need to find a better insert, if one doesn't want to change it every few months,

ozone is very powerful stuff, even ozone safe tubing needs to be change :D

just take the threaded pieces out and put a new one,

No it crumbed like old bread :D

OK quick update... Skimmer is rocking. I'm pretty sure that the problem was that air was getting in somehow through the beckett assembly. Since I tore everything down and put it back together, this thing is easy to adjust and is doing a great job!

Probably not that exciting as most of you already knew these skimmer are incredible:)

Yeah, And to think i was considering a bubble king till i seen the price. I cant believe people squabble about power consumption with beckett skimmers when you get performance like this.
I doubt i will go with any other skimmer from now on.

You can get all the replacement parts at HD or Lowes to make yourself a new one....the 1/4" fittings are hanging on a big bulletin board in the plumbing section as well as the 1/2" to 1/4" adaptors. You'll also have to pick up a 1/2" tee

Ixthys,

the main pieces are pvc, there are unaffected, the issues is just the JG, over time it cracks, and if you try to remove it, it "crumbed like old bread " :D

I added a another sump, to my setup, I think I getting steve's "adding more water volume every t..." symptoms :D
and put a cheap power head with a venture to mix ozone and all the output of that tank when it falls into the main sump, is filter with carbon,

like it better this way :D

Creetin, I hear you, and I got my raiser on its way, sweet :D

So it to summarize the O3 injector question

you guys think the PVC is O3 safe.

But the JG is not O3 safe

So change the JG elbow to a PVC nipple?

Thanks

Will the quite one 4000 pump strong enough for an MRC-1?

It may work, but you'd be handicapping the skimmers abilities. A pressure rated pump is needed to drive the becketts correctly.

With that said, I run a Gen-X 6000 (approx. 1500 gph) on my MR-1 and it works pretty good. Although a pressure pump would work much better.

I ran a Gen-X 8500 (approx. 2200 gph) on a MR-2 and then switched to a PCX-55HP (pressure rated) and it now skims way better. Less tweaking and much more consistant skimming.
