Got my waste collector in and the ping pong ball gets stuck easily and sometimes for no reason.
Is there something i can do to it to keep it from getting pushed up just by the air flow?

Here ya go or are you talking about the inside?
I just got this from andy last week so its the mrc design.

That is where the ball is suppose to be.

Try unscrewing the top off. then hold the bottom part with the ping pong ball tight against the top and see if you can see anything happening...

Is the humidity not allowing the ball to move, is it getting hung etc.

Brandon

It moves freely untill the ball reaches the top then it gets hung up in the pvc. I do have alot of air going thru my skimmer, and thought that the ball was a little too light, and was getting blown up from the air force.

I have an MR-2R recurulating model with a Blueline 55 driving it and my pingpong ball works fine.

Are you getting large bubbles in the riser tube? If you turn the air down do you still have the same problem?

Might want to give Andy a call on this one.

Brandon

I have an mr3 with an iwaki 70rlt, and almost have my air full blast. The bubbles are incredibally fine, so i left it going almost full blast. It doesent do it all the time just usually after i dump it and wash it out.

Could you be getting the ball wet when you are cleaning the tube.

I'll open my air all the way open tonight and see if I can produce the same results....

I also have a 70rlt which i use to drive my equipment.... I can swap the two pumps around real quick, got to love those unions, and let you know what happens.

Thanks, and yes the ball does get wet. I rinse the pvc out because when it fills up crud gets in there.
I'll try getting the water out next time

Creetin,

I don't have the exact same issue, but often times after the ball gets wet after cleaning or filling the collector up, it does the same thing. I have a small brush with a 12" handle that I use to push the ball back down. Then I leave the brush in there for a few hours. Even if I don't have the skimmer dialed in right, when the water reaches the ball, it still forces the ball and brush up to stop the airflow. This may be a temporary fix for you.

I would check the inside of the PVC and see if there is something hanging the ball up. If not, I would run some sandpaper around the lower section of the PVC to allow more air to pass. If you let the upper section alone, is will still raise and subsequently stop the airflow when full.

I dunno though, it's just a thought:rolleye1:

when I made mine, had the same issue,

first try the holes at the bottom, but them realize that the ball can easily pop up, so I made holes above the ball so air can escape freely, and when water reaches the ball (ball floats) goes ball the holes and lock the container,

Question??
Can someone tell me what is the exact function of the air valve?
I know it adjusts the sizes of the bubbles, but how and why??

And if there is any good/bad reason of adjusting the water level in the 1st riser column past the 2" Mark in a MR2?
By keeping it higher or lower what would the negative/positive be??

Im tagging along on this issue. I picked up used MR3 using dual becket with GenX 55 and thinking to run just one beckette. thanks for any advise.

There is No way I am going to let a Angels fan "Tag Along"
Go Yanks!
ok, just kidding.. I just am trying to figure out the details of this skimmer and use it to its fullest potential...

Yeah, since when Yanks hate the Angels, hahaha...I think when you raise the water level higher then you will get wetter skimage.

Actually it adjusts the amount of air being drawn into the skimmer. Bubble size is just something that happens as a result of more or less bubbles and it is not uniform across the board:)
