i have an MR-1 being driven by a genx pcx-40, and the microbubbles in my sump have to go.

has anyone done the U-tube mod to the MR-1? the box is a lot smaller, right? does everything fit, and does it work with this model?

i have it positioned above the sump, with the 1 1/4" drain line about 1" above the water surface. is there anything i could do with the output to reduce microbubbles, short of a filter sock?

I recently started using a Mr2 recirculating which i am running with a mak 4.The skimmer seems to be working pretty well i am running it diredctly off one of my overflows and the skimmer is recieving 450 gph.I tried hooking up dwyer SCFM meters and am getting about 20 SCFM.
In Andys directions it says optimmum performance is achieved with the needle valve closed down about 1/2 to 1 full turn. So far i seem to get a smaller bubble turned down around 3 turns.
I am just looking for any info that will help me tune this skimmer optimally.

Lots of people run the regular skimmers with the air valve turned down that much....you do get a much finer bubble. IME it works very well tuned like that for wet skimming FWIW. Just play with it and see what works best for you. Not really sure about the Recirc but I would geuss that would correlate.

I'm trying to pick out a pump for a MR-2. The will be going in the cabinet/stand. The tank is pratically the center piece in my living room. So i would love to find a pump that has the least amount of noise...

Start with a Iwaki MD55RLT that is the pump that will work the best with your skimmer because it the best pump and you need a pump for pressure application to make a beckett work right.

Is this statement firm? I was told the Dart (non pressure rated) would work. I plan on buying the dart to use as my return and share it with the skimmer. Please confirm. thanks

It is best to have one pump only to run your skimmer and yes this statement firm I have used many pumps and the Iwaki MD55RLT works the best.And thats what you want your skimmer to do.It is better to used the right pump to start with then having to keep buying pumps that put heat in your tank and still not having your skimmer doing all can do.

In my 180 gal reef tank i used only one Beckett to run my skimmer and MD55RLT pump with a Bubble Lift protein skimmer cleaning system.I have place for two becketts but in test that i have run only one is needed. Some of the parts that are on the MRC skimmer came from me and i have done much work on them. This info is to help you get as much from your beckett with the least amount of money spent.

Any low wattage pump that you can recommend? I can't afford to have 150w added to my circuit. less than 100w would be perfect.

You are not going to find a pump less than 100 watts to drive a decent sized beckett properly. I have heard/read a GenX pcx 40(~110 watts) will work but a 55 class Iwaki, blueline/Panworld or GenX pump will work much better....all of those use around 180 watts.

dannieboiz the MD55RLT pump used 155 watts the next pump thats has lower watts is a DC pump motor built by Iwaki and the cost is high.Bubble King skimmer and Tunze streams all have DC motors.DC motors are a way to lower the watts how much 30 to 40 %.
 
look into the blue line HD 30 Or HDx30 its only 90 watts but I don't know if it will be enough. If you have alot of 90 and a long run the head pressure will be an issue.

I disagree. If anything, I don't think there should be any reduction in diameter from the top and bottom riser. Funnels help weak pumped needle wheel skimmers to get the foam out, thats all they are good for. When skimming wet, the more area for the bubbles to pop at the top = a cleaner tank, quicker.

The reason I use a pressure rated pump is so that I can keep a solid head of tiny bubbles moving up the riser. If your skimmer has big dirty bubbles, you are missing the point, you might as well use a needle wheel and save on electricity.

HELP !

HELP !

I am trying to hook up a second beckett to my MR-2 and can not find a good way to plumb it in and still have easy access to clean them out..Can anyone show me pics OR if you live in Northern New Jersey and feel like killing some time, lend a hand?
I have been trying to hook this up for a week and nothing seems to work. I am about to go back to the original 1 beckett design and throw the new one out.
 
Here's my modified MR-6R. I raised the becketts and added a 8"x6" riser. I'm using a Panworld 250PS for the recirc pump. I'm skimming roughly 350 gallons with it. This is a very impressive skimmer.

I bought a WC4 for it, but I'm having trouble getting the skimmer to work after I empty the WC out and hook it back up. Honestly the WC4 is too small for what I'm skimming anyways. I should have had one made the size of a garbage can. :lol:
 
I have seen this but the 90 degree elbow that is coming out of the top of my beckett seems like it is permanent. Can this be removed?
It looks like if I can remove this then all I would need it 2 unions 2 90 elbows and a "T"
ALSO where do you get those grey fittings ?
