lime will give a balanced ca and alk at the same ratio that it is used in calcification. Provided you start with appropriate levels of each, and depending on your calcification demands, it can be the only ca and alk supplement you use. At a certain point in the maturity of the tank, it will be outconsumed by your tank and additional forms of ca and alk supplement could be needed. But again with some form of balanced ca/alk additive.
To get the most ca/alk from your limewater, you can use up to 2 teaspoons per gallon to get the solution to saturation. If you find this is still not enough you can spike it with vinegar and get up to 3 teaspoons per gallon. The vinegar amount to use for this I do not recall at this moment though.
