Good info BigJay. Did you notice any or a substantial increase in the amount of water being passed through as well?

Visually it appears to be a bit higher since the output is more turbid. It's one of those things that will have to be measured. Frankly I'm just happy that it actually starts without having to blow in it.

I got the ATB wheels too, but one was defective. I have been waiting 3 weeks for my second wheel. I am not very happy with the service form this guys right now!

Reef Specialty keeps running out of them, and then they have to order more of them from overseas (Austria). Be patient with them, it takes forever to ship the product here.

Im in the process of purchasing a skimmer..
My tank would be 150 gallon SPS w/ heavy bioload..
Do u think a MSX 250 would do the job?
I was also looking at an ITECH 200 but that only has one sicce pump...
Thanx

What sort of waterflow can be expected from each sicce pump?
I assume that it might be lower with the higher airflows of an aggressive mesh, and higher on the pinwheel or a lower airflow.

I am debating how much water I should have going through my sump, and I guess the amount of water being skimmed should be considered.

I just picke mine up. when adjusting the level where should the bubbles come up to in the collection cup?
I have mine right at the start of the start of the neck.

hi Guys, I bought a used msx 160. and it is not skimming as well as I think it should ( my old euroreef es5-2 skimmed better...)

I am using the pin wheel that came with it as I did not want to tinker with the mesh wheel. The water level is at 8.75" the total water volume is about 35-40 Gallons. There seems to be too much turbulence in the skimmer body and I really have to have the bubble break close to the top of the collection to get any skimmate. do you guys think the skimmer is too big for the system and that is the reason why it is not skimming well or is there something that I am not doing?

I also noticed that on MSX website there was a reducer on the intake/volute of the sicce pump. The skimmer I got did not come with it. would this make a difference? It really looks like there is too much turbulence in the body to skim effectively..

here is a video of the skimmer. Also seems like everytime i turn off the skimmer and turn it back on. it over flows. any thoughts on this?

Thanks for your input!

Lower the water level in the skimmer by at least 3-4", and make sure the exit pipe is ABOVE the water level. Just turn the elbow a bit to make sure air can escape, and then let it run like this for a few days and see what happens.

How long has this been setup on your tank?

Charlie Davidson...the inside nub that allows it to be spun was missing, so the pump just rattled. I put the old one back in for now, I understand that it takes some time to get them in, but I feel like I should have been first on the priority list for the replacement since I had already paid for my new set. I wasn't and have to wait yet again. I am not getting call backs and only getting erratic emails form them. Like I said I am very disappointed with the service....the new wheel though was pulling 35 or so with a super fine line of bubbles.

the "nub" as you call it, does not come with each impeller.
( I don't have a good term for it either ;) )

You are supposed to re-use the "nub" that came on the rotor..
same 'nub" for both cones..
( Please don't shoot the messanger)
You are probably no getting call backs, because you claim of defective wheel does not make any sense.. (I am not making fun, I am trying to help)

Charlie mate, I think he means the plastic catch on the inside of the pinwheel that grabs the groove on the impeller and actually moves it in circles.

Without that plastic catch, the pinwheel will spin freely and never move with the magnetic impeller.

Yes, I would certainly call that a defective pinwheel.

OK i think I got it . the key, that is supposed to be molded into the pinwheel hub.. is missing..

My guess is that they are not calling as often as you would like.. If they told you once- that it would be replaced.. But you have to wait for next shipment ..

Have you waited the 3-4 weeks its seems to take for ATB to supply them?

Both were bad?

it has been a week since I started using it. The elbow is just below the water level (like .20") I will turn it around and see how that works out. Also the I have big bio load and feeds lots.

Well my MSX 200 is scheduled to arrive Friday. So keep this thread warm. I read the first 20 pages and will go back and read the rest before it gets here. It will be the newer white one with a mesh and a stock pin wheel. N

Never had a skimmer before so it should be fun. It will be hooked up to a 40B with a 40B for a sump and I am hoping for a 20L refugium.

taekim78.. DID you miss.... the lower the water level part??
he said 3-4", I say 4-5" ..

I didn't miss it.

I just wanted to post that my MSX 200 with the PPW rocks!

Never had just tons of dry foam until now.

My only complaint is that my skimmer shuts downs for about 5 hours after I feed. Don't really understand why as I only feed PE Mysis right now & I strain first.
