MSX skimmer club

Any shrimp, except the plastic kind, are loaded with oils, especially in the shells. Could be possible they are acting as a surfactant and dispersing the collodial waste that the skimmer picks up. I dont think its anything to worry about. Once the skimmer gets rid of them it goes back to skimming. Just my opinion.

sup ya i ordered a msx200 skimmer and it was suppose to be here today. i went online to check the status and it said its going back to the shipper. so i called fedex and they said that no one lived at that house so its going back to the shipper. i called Marine Solutions and talk to them about it and they said there going to try to have fedex ship it to my house tomarrow. the package never even reach my city aint that somthin. well anyways what size sump do u have ur skimmers in? i have a 30 gal tank that im going to try to fit it in. has any ever put one in a 30 gal? can ya also post pics of ur set up? trying to get an idea of how i can set it up. this is my first in sump skimmer. i have a hob skimmer rite now and this is my first skimmer i ever had (only had it for a few weeks).

I got it to skim nice now. I tried and lowered the water level to what it was recommended and the foam head had trouble going over the neck and just gunked up the sides of the neck, not much skimmate. The output being out of the water helped also but it was not enough. I went ahead and changed out to the mesh wheel that it came with. It had issues starting up so i wiggled it a bit and bam it works!. now I have much less turbulence in the body, finer bubbles and nice thick foam that goes over the neck.

btw, do you guys think that using the PPW (large or a small?) would give me the same result on the 160 as the msx pinwheel?
thanks guys

It will fit in a 12" wide 30 gallon, no problem. There isnt room to rotate it so the pump is facing the side glass but it fits, no problem.

Koo that's what I wanted to know. I have a 30 gal that is 30"L x 12" W x 19"H. I wanted to build a sump base on melev's model F sump. Has any one don't this with a 30 gal and used a msx200?

Mine is designed from Melev's "F". You can have three sections but your return will be pretty small. You'll need about 15" for the skimmer & 3" for the bubble trap. That only leaves 12" for the fuge & return. The skimmer is much more important than the fuge.

I only feed PE Mysis right now & I strain first.
PE Mysis is good stuff but is a big time foam killer. Rinsing first does help. If you shut the skimmer off while feeding and turn it back on later, it will recover faster.

Looks like I'll be "leaving" the MSX club soon, although I'll still stop by and participate. I'm getting one of the new R.E. Alpha 250 cones. Just like to try out new toys. I'll test it out for a bit and make sure it lives up to the hype before I say good bye to the MSX which has been great. With the Askoll pump, it has worked even better. Darker skimate than I got with any Sicce MW or PW setup. Great performance without any of the Sicce peculiarities.

I made another little mod recently which you can see in the pic. I dremel'd off the tubes that stick into and down from the silencer and instead put a little filter floss in there. The stock silencer doesn't keep salt out of the airline and air intake tube. This bit of filtering keeps it clean.

Well I'm in the club. Got my msx 250 on wednesday and it was pulling crap by thursday night.
I'm super happy with this skimmer.

I just replaced the mesh with the SWC pinwheel wish I had done it earlier. No start up problems at all and the head is not more of a foam instead of large bubbles that the mesh was producing.

Make sure you change that air line hose out to the stiffer clear hose so i won't kink. In your second pic, you can see the line on the pump closest to you is already kinked. Enjoy the skimmer. Congrats.

I wonder why they are still sending the skimmers with that excuse for a hose:lol:

I bet they buy it on a huge roll and get it for $.04 cheaper a foot:lol:

Seriously the quality is in the details and this is just one detail they could improve on. Even if they charged a dollar more I wouldn't have cared:D
