MTC skimmer club!

I've been wanting to get this setup at some point still. I was planning rodi with it though. I know you've had this setup for sometime so now I'm curious enough to run some tests (long term) with my air flow meter.

How often do you run this again?

I have it run for 15 seconds every 6 hours. Keeps the mazzei completely clear of any salt buildup.

Yep, absolutely. I have mine internal.

FWIW, I replaced the skinny black tubing to my dual mazzei a while back. A threaded 1/2x3/8 bushing screws onto the mazzei to make it water tight for we externals. Removed the grey washers and used 1/2" tubing. Definitely more air, and noisier. Not sure it works any better though.

Awesome. Thanks for the input.

So, its been a little over a month since I cleaned my skimmers collection cup. I was not expecting to find what I found but not surprised either. I went near a year with out cleaning my Aquamaxx collection cup once that was also running this same Swabbie neck cleaner.

It was a pretty nasty sight before. But this build up was much worse. This skimmer, at least for me, produces a thick and very sticky dry foam.

The inside of the collection cup was almost closed up

And the neck cleaner's arm was caked full. The plastic rod is not nearly this thick

I definitely shouldn't go much longer between cleanings then this.

Also, since my drain tubing isn't long enough now that I changed its location in the sump I tried to tune it way down by opening up the gate valve and bring the water level really low until I can get s new line and still aerate my water. I need all the pH help I can get.

But this skimmer just doesn't want to give up that easily...

And pushing over the top...I had to open the gate valve even more

A few pics of the MTC - MVX. I had it custom built to 34 1/2 ".
I have to say so far very impressed. The quality is top notch. I put it up there with my vertex alpha quality. I'm running it with a mag 18.
I had a small problem with my red sea no pox. It over dosed my tank, so for now i'm running both skimmers until the new one kicks in.

Jason have you thought about modifying the gate valve so it sits up a little higher? Jeff said none of those parts are glued.

Yep, it's possible. I haven't worried about it as I normally don't need to adjust it once set. But I have been meaning to replace that metal screw.

Ok, so I was getting close o 26scfh continously with the 1/2 tubing in my old setup running in a depth of about 7-8 inches of water.

Now that I swapped out sumps and running in about 14-15 inches of water I was getting about 22scfh.

But to compare apples to apples I put back on the original tubing setup.

So, with the Waveline Dc 12000 at full power w/ the mazzei 684 in place @ 14-15 inches of depth
Air draw: 20scfh
Watts used: 144

So, increasing sump depth does have an impact. Now to swap out and try the 784 mazzei now. [emoji1]

Will calculate out the efficiency/performance thing next. but right now I have to rip apart a power bar... ha!

I went to take the screw out of the gate valve to take to a hardware store to match thread type and size to replace with a nylon screw.

But I don't think I will worry about it. It just keeps the handle on which if I don't pull up on it just stays in place.

I'm not sure what kind of metal the screw is but there seemed to be a black coating on it that was coming off.

May just buy a stainless steel screw from lowes or home depot.

Many stainless steel thats cheap or not the right type will still rust. Titanium or nylon would be better. It's just sitting on top in the grooves just fine right now. I'm probably going to just leave it for now. May get around to it one of these days.

Or you can contact Jeff for another one if needed....
