Hi,
I don't have any problems right now but read your thread earlier about this forum going down.
Well, I would like to start a thread and ask you what you think the optimum reef conditions for zoanthids are? If you could set up an ideal zoo "garden", what would it look like? What corals do you think go with zoos best and what should you never put with zoos? What should you do to get optimum growth of zoas? I have a few colonies and would like to see them grow like mad.

You can put just about eney corals that you want with them they like the water to be a little nasty and a looootttt of light's ie T-5's or 15k to 20k MH's lfduty has them in a 40g with 6 T-5's and 2 175w 15k MH's and they grow like mad.

Hello Rackyrane, I think it would be best to direct that question to all of the well experienced, knowledgeable and talented zoanthid keepers here in this forum. Just being honest and not being mean at all my friend. In a public forum with hundreds if not thousands of reefers who could give you a wide range of successful options and information which would be far more helpful then receiving the opinion of one person. Many will find the way you phrased your question offensive by directing to me only. I know you had good intention, and I can truly understand why Peter Eichler would make his post. I would probably feel the same way.

No harm, no foul.

I would make the post below in a new thread if I were you, you would get some great opinions by a lot of great reefers here. Called it, "Best Conditions".

"What do you think the optimum reef conditions for zoanthids are? If you could set up an ideal zoo "garden", what would it look like? What corals do you think go with zoos best and what should you never put with zoos? What should you do to get optimum growth of zoas? "

Please take no offense to this at all my friend.

PS, my tank is completely different now since the make over. As we all mature and gain a better understanding with knowledge, our reefing methods change subtle to dramatically. I have upgraded everything so I would no longer use that TOTM article as a sound base of information. I still keep it simple, and have upgraded everything from lighting to the skimmer. I would like to hear from everyone else on there best reefing practices that are most conducive for optimal growth as stated originally in Rackyrane's question.

Rackyrane,

I tend to agree with the opinions expressed earlier. If you want only one person's perspective, then it might be best to contact that person via PM or email. If you want opinions from multiple sources, then addressing your thread to one specific individual (no matter how knowledgeable that individual may be) will tend to cause others to ignore your post.

Just one of those things that happen on bulletin boards, you know? :)

Just want to say I wasn't offended in the least (and I hope Racky wasn't by my post). I was just making a joke. Though I must admit I and others probably would have taken the time to answer the questions if the question were not just directed at Mucho. But maybe the OP didn't want that and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but like Mucho and Anemone suggested it's probably best to use a PM in that case.

That is still one of my favorite tanks, Mucho!

"Well, I would like to start a thread and ask you what you think the optimum reef conditions for zoanthids are?"
Tough one. I think getting the flow right, lighting right and parameters stable is key. The first two are different for every tank though so no set guide lines.

"If you could set up an ideal zoo "garden", what would it look like?"
I would do rock ledges on each side of the tank for zoanthids and ricordias. In the middle of the tank, shallow rock cave for SPS to grow out. I wouldn't add an anemone in the tank. It can be done but it could wonder and decimate the rest of the tank JMO.

"What should you do to get optimum growth of zoas?"
Kinda goes with #1.

A question like that is like asking someone the best way to raise a child!!! SO many different options and ways to go to get them off to college!!!
