Long story short, I called all the local mom and pops I could think of. Many of them were sold out of Dehumidifiers or the ones they had were not strong enough for my needs. I went to Home Depot and the only brand they had in the capacity I needed was LG. I have had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS with every LG product I've owned. Maybe it's just me, but they'll get no loyalty from me. Took a ride to Lowes and they had the Frigidaire in stock in the 70 pint capacity.

We're having another open house and I need this thing going like yesterday, so not only did I over pay, I also did not support local business. I am ashamed on both accounts but I'm kind of over a barrel. There is literally fog in my basement on days like to day and there are visible wet drip lines around the entire basement floor from the pipes sweating. The sight of that and the musty smell is really a deterent. With the market so bad right now for sellers, I need all the help I can get.

Jdoe, I honestly really tried. I'd rather overpay locally than save a few bucks on line, but I'm in a corner on this one.

I agree about what you say about LG. As a whole the company relies on big box stores and exaggerated marketing. They make cool looking products. But, they dont have great product reliability and thier parts supply chain is HORRIBLE. In other words pray you dont have a problem. Yeah if your trying to get your house on the market urgency is important. I completely understand.

Sometimes it happens - the big box stores have their advantages - inventory is one of them. I'm not one to abuse returns - but if the unit doesn't make you happy bring it back and let them know.

One thing about some off the smaller stores that drives me nuts is returns - I have a bad power strip from ACE with the ACE brand on it - they wont take it back without a receipt. that wouldn't be an issue at a big box store.

In this heat I would expect the basement to look and feel like a jungle. 24hrs after starting the dehumidifier, mistiness is greatly reduced. There is NO PIPE SWEAT for the first time in months. Great recommendation guys. Very happy with the results so far.

We have a Kenmore 40 pint. The things fills immediately (yes we have some humidity here in cincinnati) AND It crapped out twice. In two years it is dead. Fan motor bearing went out the first time. Now, not sure, but it is definately dead. Not getting power.

I would like to know if anyone has any input on a REALLY GOOD long running basement dehumidifier ? ? ?

I use a 70 pint $ 200 model from Value hardware on sale. Just replaced a 20 yr old unit Keeps 1000 sq ft basement (circa 1941) under 55% humidiy,usually under 50%.. I ran the output via hose directly to the house sump.

I wouldn't call mine liveable. 80 years old with stone walls. All I can say is that it was the best $200 I ever spent. In the previous summers in this home there has quite literally been fog in my basement on the hottest days. Even in some of the warmer days of fall and spring I would have pipesweat. You can see the drip lines along my floor. No longer!

I never paid much attention to what the old dehumidifier was rated at. Turns out it was a 20+ year old Kenmore rated for 20 liters. So basically, it did nothing but add to my energy bill. Thank God our town has it's own electric company which costs a fraction of what my neighbors pay.

My basement is a huge asset for keeping my system. All the sloppy work is done there leaving the area around the main floor displays pretty clean of salt, water drips etc. Much of the water in the basement is open for good air exchange allowing glass covers on the displays to keep the jumpers at home.
The humidity thing is a big problem not only for the mildew but also salt mist which rusts everything. Ph seems to be lower when humidity gets out of hand as well. Keeping it down alleviates a myriad of problems.
