My 125 to 180 build thread

I finished the wood wrap for my stand this morning. I still have the two side cabinets to do but the main section is done!! I'm really happy with how this turned out.

Nice job on the stand looks great. How's everything else settling in.

Thanks! Everything is moving along now. I have three tangs in, I have an other in QT ready to be put in along with a group of anthias. Once I get the side cabinets together I'll be ready for coral. I'll have a 10g frag tank on the right side with the ATO, and the left cabinet will hold a lot of the test kits, food and the 20g trash can for water changes. The left one is built i just need to stain and seal it. I'm hoping by next weekend everything will be done and I can start working on the outside of my house :bounce3:

So my life hit a pretty nasty speed bump but everything seems to be settling down and I'm getting back into the swing of things. My tank took a backseat for about 10 months but I'm in the process of getting it back to normal. The good news is I kept all the fish alive but the tank looks like hell. I started doing 50g water changes yesterday and I'll do a couple this week after my daughter goes to sleep. I vacuumed the sand as well as I could but I clearly have to go in stages. I'm expecting this to be a long road but hoping it ends quick!

The tank is looking much better after two 50g wcs...I'm going to let everything settle for a day or so and do another one. I'll post a picture tonight.

Here's after two WCS. I'll wait until Thursday to do the next one. The tank is looking much better and I'm feeling good about it

That most recent picture doesn't look bad, but I guess it's one of those good from far but far from good situations.

What exactly do you have growing in there that you are trying to get rid of right now with the back to back to back huge water changes? Just bring nitrate levels down?

I had piles of Tang crap all over, hair algae on the sand, just nasty looking all together. I figured a few big water changes would get things back to somewhat normal and I'd be able to suck out most of the crap. Honestly after it settled I got home today and the tank looks good. The sand it white, no more Tang crap and I can actually see everything.

The kole seems to have some HLLE but I'm sure it's because of the swing in levels. I'll soak the nori with selcon for a week or two and he should be back to normal. I'm holding off on the next big change until everything looks good again.

So it's been quite a while and the tank is still going! I will be doing another tank move this summer...yikes

I am doing an extension on my house and my tank will not be able to stay where it is. I am putting it in the wall and will have access from the back.

I guess I'll update this every once and a while to document what happens.

My current stocking is:

Kole Tang
Lavender Tang
Purple Dottyback
2 Clown Fish

They've all been in the tank for years and are doing great.

I have 4 Lyretail Anthias in a 50g QT. They've been eating for just over a week so yesterday I did the first round of prazi. I plan on doing the second dose on Tuesday. After that I would like to do two weeks of cupramine and then watch them for weeks.

My stocking plan is:

1 Yellow Tang
1 Blue Tang
1 Mystery Wrasse
1 Scotts Fairy Wrasse (Australian or Fiji)
1 Orange Stripe Prawn Goby
1 Watanabei Angelfish female
1 Bellus Angelfish female
1 Swallowtail Angelfish

I'd like to have another 4 anthias...maybe carberry or bartlets but that can wait. I was also thinking maybe a trio of chalk bass instead but I just have to see how the tank goes and what I feel can work.

I'll update when the anthias get the second round of prazi

Make arrangements for front access too. Very hard to get things right from just the rear.
If you have a dedicated sump room put everything up on a bench. It makes life SOOOOO much easier.

Hmmm I didn't even think of front access. I was just thinking it would be the same maintenance wise. I was just going to put molding around it so it just looked like a picture on the wall. Now you got me thinking that might be a bad idea [emoji2359]

Made the same suggestion to a friend & he has not stopped thanking me.
When I did maintenance I had a few with rear access only & I hated those calls.

Anything you are happy with will be fine.

I got the initial plans so once the details are set I'll have a better idea of what it should look like.

I was thinking about moving away from the big power heads and getting a tunze wave box but I've read because of the wave pressure it can cause tank failures. Not sure how much that's true, but apparently in the user guide it says something like using it can shorten the life of the tank itself.

Change of plans a bit. I am thinking now it's not gonna go in the wall but be a room divider between the kitchen and the dining room. I am now on the hunt for a 180g tank which is apparently impossible to find. This should be interesting.

The lyretails are doing good. They made it through the two rounds of prazi. I gave them 3 days and now I'm slowly dosing the copper. I'll spread it out over 7 days and keep the cupramine there for 30. I'll be at .5 Sunday. They're all still eating and looking good.
