My 168g Cube Build!

Had my first scare with a fish today. I have 5 chromis and a fairy wrasse so far. Just added 3 dispar anthias. It took them about 15 min to leave the safety of the rocks and school with the chromis. The wrasse spreads his fins and chases the anthias around every few minutes. After about 2 hours I'm marinating the skirt steak for tomorrow's dinner when my girlfriend hears a splash. Now, as you can see, my tank has a canopy. But that doesn't stop the wrasse from jumping into the overflow! So I slide the canopy forward enough to look into the overflow to net him out but I don't see him. I'm afraid he got sucked into the siphon so I remove the 1.5" pvc from the overflow and open the gate valve all the way and pray he's fine in my sump. Well, I can't find him. I look all over the floor. Nothing. I finally give up looking for him. An hour later he pops back up in the tank. He must have jumped into the main display while I was trying to get into the overflow. I almost wanted to fish him out and slap him around for all the trouble he caused!

Hi I use the plastic gutter guard you can get at Home depot to cover the overflows, it works pretty good.

Looks like I'll need to come up with something. Thanks for the tip!

Jon,
I have quite a few pieces of ORA Spongodes, not mounted.
You are welcome to 1-2-3 whatever you like.
Question -- what temp does the tank run at?
Also have some screen top material if you want it for the overflow.
Vinny

Hey Vinny. Yes, I'd like a frag please! I have my apex kick the heater on at 78 and off at 79. I was going to pose the question about temp swings. Is 1 degree noticeable to fish/corals? It really does bounce from 78 to 79 every couple hours.

A 1 degree temp swing is OK. Some prefer a few degree swing.
Let me know if you want to stop by Monday afternoon sometime.
If not we will work something out.
The reason I asked about temp. is because my tank is running over 80 these days.
I pulled the SP 6 for a Vectra L1 but it's the same & the book states they run hot.
Something I had never heard before or I would NOT have bought it.

I have the opposite problem you have. I can't keep my tank heated. The Vectra, red dragon, and led's just aren't producing any heat for me. My house the last several days has been sitting at 67 without any heating or cooling. It's odd that you're saying the L1 is running hot since it's controller is external and steals some of the heat, from what I read. I wish it would produce some heat. The titanium heater sucks a lot of juice!

Nothing wrong with 78+, I ran @ 77, Yes brandy new.
Checked last year & I ran higher June to September so it is a wait & see game for now.
I'm @ 75% right now, I could handle wide open, but the sand would move out of the front corners. I think 500 W is too big for you. I run 300 W on a 250 & it still cycles.
However I think my home is warmer than yours.

iPhone pics are so blue

Thank you Vinny! That spongode sure is a looker!
