My 195 Build Thread...

The skimmer is pulling a very light green color. I guess that's to be expected with next to no bio-load in the tank yet. Here's what my BK Supermarin 200 pulled since Friday with one fish and minimal pellet feeding each day:

After getting some frags last week and setting up a Kalk reactor that I traded my beloved Sohal for, some of the corals are really starting to color up. In the meantime, I've been running my two 400 watt Radiums for 8 hours per day with no VHO actinic supplements because nobody has 60" Super Actinics in stock since I set up the tank!!! Grrrr. So, I ordered a Kessil A150 Ocean Blue with a gooseneck today to place between the two halides for some dusk to dawn affect, and a little extra punch of color. As funds allow, I'll be adding one to the left side angled in and the right side angled left to really highlight the rock structures and allow the sides of the tank to fade to black as I originally intended. I didn't go with the Deep Ocean Blues because I think there will be enough blue in the tank, and may put a strip of Royal Blues for some moonlight affect.

In the meantime, here's a little eye candy of the ones that are coloring up nicely:

Things started doing better when nitrates climbed to around 5. I'm going to keep the tank a little dirty, but probably closer to 2ppm nitrate. Then again, I don't know how much I'll rock the boat since everything's coloring up nicely. Many of these were brown last week with a hint of what their color was going to be. Swamp Thing is still brownish in color so the verdict is out on that one.

Wow, this is going to look really nice. I like the idea of leaving space on either end and cheating the MH's to the middle. Will sort of create little niches in your tank for different corals other than strictly SPS, and give your fish lots of room to move around and dazzle.

some one needs to give an update on this thread.

Sorry Steve, I've been a little lazy in updating. Lights are out right now, but I'll take some more pictures tomorrow and post the progress thus far.

Some of the acros have lightened a bit, some have grown more than I would have expected, some have colored up, and one has receded at the base a bit...still trying to figure that one out. I may need to frag it soon to save it. LPS are doing horribly in tis tank. I believe my 5 Peppermint shrimp are to blame for picking at the flesh of these corals at night. I've lost 3 LPS so far, and will be trying to get the peppermint shrimp out to see if that's the issue. I don't think I've formally posted that I've been using natural seawater for all my weekly 10% water changes in the last 2 months and I almost immediately saw better colors and polyp extension in my SPS. Surprisingly, I've run into a few hobbyists at my collection point where we swap stories and experiences in the hobby.

So far, the Precision Marine kalk reactor has been doing very well at keeping up with demand. I know the day will come that I'll need either 2 part dosing or my calcium reactor, especially since the tank is SPS dominant and I have a strong affinity for crocea and maxima clams. I may even scatter a large assortment of clams on the sand bed like most people place zoos and acans. Still wrestling with whether to go with 2 part or use the CRx.

I also think the tank may be too clean, so there will be a few more Dispar Anthias and possibly another Leopard Wrasse in the not too distant future before I decide which tang to go with, and then I'm done as far as fish go. Like I've stated before, I don't want a lot of fish in this display.

I'll work on posting up some pics tomorrow.

As promised, following are some pictures of progression shots in just under 3 months of some of the acros. I'll try and post some more pictures later, as there are some more that I didn't have time to take before leaving for work this morning:

Thanks jroovers. That's the plan! It also helps not having to burn another 400 watt Radium.;)
