My 1st 180 RR Project, Cust Built stand/canopy Tunzes etc..

Hey Rob, I was going to see how you guys made it through last night, there were reports of funnel clouds in the Largo area.

Anyways we are fine, very sunny just very windy!!! Tons of rain and wind last night but nothing bad at all,

Rob- this tank is almost ready to go over the overflows, probally in the next 2 hours it will start filling the sump up, now we will see how my glueing is!!!! Im going to post pics really soon... I also got the elec. panel installed in the stand, its looking goooood

1st, I relocated the pump to this area so theres no 90 right near the inlet, I read that, that wasent good for the pump to have a 90 closer than 1 foot away, I also added a union to the return pipe.

Heres the electrical panel in place

cool mike glad to see it is coming together. did you have to trim any of the pieces? I left a few long since when you start to glue things go together shorter. I totally forgot the union off the pump. I am used to the old dolphin pumps that the connectors were unions.
granite people are here doing our install I will be glad to get this overwith. so far it looks like they are doing an awesome job.

Sweet man, thats cool ,,hope things work out for ya with that.
The only thing I had to shorting was the return bar, it was 1/4" to big , but everything is done and its got about 1 1/2" till it goes over the overflows, I have the socks in place so just incase theres any PVC frags left in the pipe the socks will catch it.

I just added about 2 cups to the 180, its starting to overflow into the drain!!!!! yiiiipeeeeeeeeee :D

Darn, I ran out of salt, Im going to have to pick up another bucket sometime soon. So far so good NO leaks!!!!

The overflow boxes are about half way full or is it half way empty!!! :D

This is my temp. set-up with the socks, notice the water starting to trickle in the 1st section of the sump!!That should be filled up and overflowing into the return area in about a hour or little less! Than I let that fill up about 8-10" than try to turn the pump on.

Rob-does this sound ok to you??

that is hard to say mike. were is the tank water line compared to the 4 returns coming back into the tank? if it is not over the openings then I would fill it up to about 16 inches or so before I turn the pumps on. it will suck alot of the water out of the sump and you want about 8 inches of depth when it is running for the euro reef skimmer to work the best. 6-8 I think is recommended so until you get your auto top off working I would fill it to 8 inches and never let it get below 6 inches. both while the pump is running. you also want to make sure when the pump shuts off and the water siphons back into the sump it doesn't overflow the sump. if the water is getting close when you shut it off lift the pvc out of the water to break the siphon and at that point you will have to drill holes in the pvc that is a point underwater while running otherwise you will here it all the time. did you cut some of the teeth out yet? also on first start up make sure your girl knows exactly which switch to throw incase you can't get to it fast enough have here ready. I think we have the durso's low enough to not overflow but better safe than sorry. I am always freaking when I first start something thankfully I have been lucky so far. the good thing is if it isn't draining fast enough you can pull one of the durso's and it will really start draining fast.
I can't tell in the pic but it looks like the right sock might be up tight against the bottom of the sock. if it is you need to trim an inch or two off the pipe or it will shoot out of the breather under the tank.
let me know how it goes.
hey who is your wireless provider by the way?
no i don't sell cell phones ;)
a good idea before it gets wet is to mark your sump on the outside with a marker in 1 inch increments. measure from the inside though. this way you don't get your tape salty. I do it in the right corner where it isn't very noticeable on my system.

Hey Rob I called ya and left a message, give me a call please!!!

What the heck does my wireless provider have to do with fish tanks!!!! LOL I judt dont see the connection&%%#^%$%#!! Anyways I have Sprint..:D

Ohh yes Ive been told that a zillion times also when I 1st started this post back at page 1 !!! But its the truth, if I didnt read a ton , Id have this tank set up 2 months ago and I would have a tank full of brown poop!! Cause I would have used tap water and everything else I wasent suppost to.!!

Rob thanks for the info over the phone!! Ill let ya know if we need disaster and flood relief!!!:D

Welp we got the tank all fired up and like you said Rob, the sump was sucked dry!! So I went out and bought a Dremil and cut the teeth in the overflow, now it stayed at a constant level, but the thing right now is pretty loud, so I know ya said once those slip caps are on and drilled they will quiet down, When I first started up the pump I didnt have any of those plugs in there, and the section where the water overflows into the return from the socks, thats like Niagara Falls in the living room!!! Not that loud but the amount of flow is pretty crazy!!! The pump is VERY quiet, barley can hear it.

Thats where Im at now.

yeah as far as I know those baffels are for lower flow systems or wider. thats why mine goes under and not over. when your salt level is up it may help since it seems harder to push saltwater than fresh. not sure if it's true it just seems that way. are the over flows loud? like falling water or gurgling?
that baffle may cause splashing also if it falls instead of running down and will end up with saltcreep. maybe not but keep an eye on it just incase. we will mess with it this weekend anyway.
glad it's running.

Hey Rob, Yes the overflows are loud but I do NOT have the plugs in them, it sounds like all the above of what ya wrote in ya last post!!, I shut her down for now until you come over.Im trying to come up with a different way to do the baffles and I will present that to you when you come over, trying to take the work load off you as much as I can!!!

Good choice on that pump by the way , Rob !

hey mike has it occured to you to just remove the baffles altogether? to me they are very unnecessary using the socks. in a system not using the socks they are used to prevent micro bubbles from entering back into the display tank. I might think about taking them both out and you can that way run the pump to get it broke in. it will also allow you to use the whole sump when you turn off your pump.
