Love the pics of the blue tangs. I think they have a very underrated beauty both in nature and in the hobby. I absolutely love the Blue tang I have in my reef tank. Gorgeous!

Unfortunately, I only saw a few staghorns on Looe Key, and not all of them were thriving.

BTW, I photographed all the pictures from my Looe Key trip free diving....I am not scuba certified....yet. Some of those Elkhorn and staghorn corals were photographed in deeper water. :thumbsup:

Nice pics. Great to see some bigger stands of Elkhorn! It's a bummer the Staghorn isn't doing as well. Those big groups of Atlantic Blue's are impressive, too!

I need to get down to Looe Key for some diving. Most of my Keys diving has been in Key Largo and Islamorada, which I love, but it would be nice to experience some places in the Lower Keys.

July 2012 Update :thumbsup:

Just returned from another amazing trip to the Florida Keys. Unlike most trips, the weather was not cooperative this time around and most of my scheduled snorkel/dive trips were cancelled due to bad weather (ie, 5 to 7 feet waves at the reefs with lots of rain).

It turns out the reef keeping community is a small world after all. On my first trip out to Sombrero Reef, which is located 6 miles offshore from the Islands of Marathon, I ran into fellow aquarist, speaker and author, Murray Camp of Dallas, Texas. To make a long story short, Murray and I had a great time on Sombrero Reef and we plan to get together again to visit more reefs in the future.
