my 240

hehe, my wife says it looks like a technicolor movie (like just after dorothy's house squashed the witch) from the 50's and that my pictures dont look fake enough!

My betta always stays in the rocks and just pops out now and then...Ace, your tank doesn' even look real.

well, they made it thru the night together without incident. i am starting to think they may both be female, or the small one is just not sexually mature yet. i am hoping the big one is female and the small one is (becomes) male.

the newbie like to hang out under the shelf at the left end of the tank or under the center island

the big one used to hang out under the rocks on the right end of the tank when it wasnt out swimming around. now, it seems has been staying in the center rocks, even took over the trigger's house for now

they seem to stay in line of sight of one another for the most part

they have been passively following each other around the tank, with a few nips from the big one - resulting in no apparent damage.

thanks, that was not easy. i sat the camera on a tripod and sat next to it with a remote. every time they would start swimming around the tank, i started snapping. i took about 80 pics in all to get those 10 ok ones. :)

i really like em too - hopefully i can get em to make some babies[insert barry white music reference ]

What kind of lights are you using? Natural sun light using those solar tubes plus actinics? VERY nice tank and pictures BTW. How is that feather star and all those gorgonians doing? Any of them grow?

yep, three 14" solar tubes and just under 200 watts of T5 ATI blue plus for color. thanks for the compliments. all gorgonians including the blue berry have shown growth. the feather star has yet to drop off an arm and the center spikes are already getting their feather filaments in the month that i have had it.

Nice!! Where did you get the feather starfish and how much did you get it for?

a local shop got them in. it was $20

- disclaimer - they are very difficult to keep long term and the only reason i am trying it is because i am not running a skimmer and i am having lots of success with gorgonians and carnations which are also filter feeders.

i feed four times a day - the equivalent of 10 cubes or so for the whole day. i run 100 gallon sump/fuge combo that is mostly fuge with large section full of live rock rubble and a large section with an 8" dsb with mangroves. i also just added an algae turf scrubber.

Nice!! Whats your fish list? Sorry about all the questions. lol I'm thinking about going skimmerless on my 180. Do you have any algae problems in your DT?

ok, here goes:

purple tang
sohal tang
regal blue tang
black shoulder tang
niger trigger
3' zebra moray
(2) marine bettas
(6) pink skunk clowns
starry blennie
flame hawk
purple striped pseudochromis
two spot candy hogfish
radiant wrasse
sixline wrasse
yellow coris wrasse
red coris wrasse
chechered or marble wrasse

no algae issues in the system - clean the glass no more than twice a week. change 5 gallons of water twice a week, but one water change a month is 15 gallons to siphon detritus from sump and overflows. i am running a small amount of carbon that is changed every two weeks and a kalk reactor to keep alk and calcium levels stable.

another note - i ran a single beckett skimmer on the tank from the beginning, but a few months ago it quit producing - even after cleaning. i took it out of the sump at that time and the tank has done very well since - especially the non photosynthetic corals. sps did not fare as well at first, but i now have a digi and a bird's nest that are doing well. i plan on trying a few more in the near future.

WOW! Nice!! That's a big stock list for a tank that's fed a ton and with no skimmer. lol Do you have a phosban reactor or something like that?

Oh, ok.

i have had them about 9 months. i really like them better than halides and my electricity usage reinforces that. i will be supplementing them with extra T5s during the winter next year to make sure my H. magnifica and the higher light corals get enough light.
