My 300 gallon acrylic tank

Think of it like this... Run a 1" piece of pvc 2' above the sump. Have the output of the doser at the top, open side of the pipe. As it doses, water goes down the pipe, but there is never a risk of a siphon. How you rig up the feed into the reactor and to the doser it up to you.

That sort of makes sense unless you are feeding the doser from the bottom of a large tank. Then pressure forces water through the doser and it doesn't matter where the end is mounted.

Well I tried the roller in different positions to see if I would get a siphon and I didn't.That tubing is new so who knows how it will work when it has more wear and tear.Just because it didn't happen now doesn't mean it won't happen later.I also think it may need a very strong siphon to suck out that kalk.I tried to suck out water from the output manually and I couldn't do it.But like you said it happened to you. This is why I want to put my level sensor and float switch at the same height. It will shut my pump off and the float switch will stop the siphon,if this happens and the pump burns I will return it or get something else. The way I see it this isn't a safe pump to use.Aquatronica has a triple doser that doses by volume. You can program how much you want dosed.I don't want to spend more money since I already have the reef doser. The litre meter is nice but then I am stuck with my sp 3000 and If I buy the litre meter I think I can use it for the 2 part and my kalk reactor but again I will be sitting on over $300 of equipment(sp 3000 and reef doser twin) that I am not going to use(maybe I can sell it) plus I need another $300 to buy that pump.

yeah, well my Aqua-Medic is still hanging on the wall. Sherman has told me countless times to eBay it, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

I will try the float switch for now, thanks maybe I will end up getting the litre meter.I will see what happens.I don't want a kalk disaster and if I burn the pump it will cost me less than livestock.I may just do that for now and if I see the pump burns I will get something else.

TOUGH DECISION. I just feel compelled to warn people about this item since it did cause an over-dose while it was OFF.

Listen thats one reason i bought this pump was because I thought it can't siphon out my tank. The last thing I want is a crash like I had before.I don't want to loose my livestock.I would rather burn a $100 pump and then go buy the litre meter.I will see if I can return it but I am sure I can use it for something. How much would it cost to repair it.I think I will keep it as is use my level sensor witch will shut the pump to keep it from burning and a float switch witch will keep me from overdosing. The float switch is cheap and if everything works fine I don't have to spend $300.I am sure those float switches work well.Plus is not like this unit pulls a lot of pressure that the float switch won't be able to handle it.The level sensor is supposed to work well and I can program it to any socket.I think for now its my cheapest solution and its a decent precaution. What do you think?

I spoke with my lfs guy he said use a float switch.Maybe later if I am not happy I can get the Aquatronica unit.I can sell both dosing units and buy that(do everything twice to save money(':bum:')

unit if I want.I don't need to I think I will solve this problem with this float switch.I installed my ORP monitor my ORP is 300.I think thats fine.I also bought another fish.Blue throat trigger male 3".I can't take a pic he is in hiding. My buddy is going to give me some temporary lighting just so that the fish can see.:lolspin: :lolspin:

love those blue throats. very cool.

As far as the doser, there's nothing to "fix". It's just a design issue and I think there may be ways to deal with that, but I just couldn't figure it out. Everything I tried did not work and I felt it was too risky to keep on my system based on the way I move water around.

In fact, I originally had just a gravity fed float valve and it worked better than the doser. Turning it off with a switch or level controller won't keep it from siphoning if that is what it will do. Maybe in your situation it won't. In my situation, it did not do it right away, but seemed to progress as it broke in.

Well the controller will shut the pump on and off so thats fine. The level sensor with shut the dosing pump if to much water gets dosed. The float switch is made for ATO of RODI unit so that water is under pressure.Standard water pressure is 90 psi witch this float switch is made for.I want to use it to stop the doser if by chance it over doses.I think it can handle it.The float switch will only go on if to much water is dosed. I am only going to use this as a sort of back up.If the doser stops and a siphon is created the water in my sump will rise once it gets to my set poitn the float switch closes and shuts off the water or its supposed to stop the water flow.I do think this method will work.I am going to use this http://oceanaquatics.com/product_images/kent-floatvalve.jpg

Ok I borrowed some temporary lighting from my friend.

I checked my orp again and its at 357.My fish seem happy.I would like to get more fish but I think I should take it easy. Most of my rock isn't live so I don't know how much good bacteria I have in the tank.I can tell you the water is clean.
