Here are a few shots as the tank is starting to clear up.

List of things to come over the next 2-3 weeks (hopefully)
Install evap cooler on shed.
Install portable AC units on shed.
Hook up all RO lines and ATO stuff.
Run sewer line.
Get seed live rock.
Install VFD so I can test out the closed loops.

A lot of people cover over the markings on the side of their house that indicate where the clean-out is, not knowing what it represents. Now that you've spent the money to find out where it is, it would be a good idea to mark it's location on the outside wall for some future endeavor.

that skimmer looks pretty WHITE with bubbles in one of those pictures...

(i did notice the New Orca pump on the skimmer as well. and its a new good one with the large balder/reeflo motor on it.)

Any updates? J/K... :)

That's a pretty sweet RO/DI unit. Good idea upgrading the RO tank, you can never have too much water.

Also, something else to consider. Do you think that the light coming from the window may contribute to any unwanted algae growth in your holding tank or sump? might be worth it to put some blackout shades on it. And the same thought comes to mind during that part of the year when you said you'll have you're door open for ventilation.

Very nice! just read the whole thread (just in time). Waiting to see how the whole system is working and some fish in there!

Salty Critter sent me the bigger one when I ordered the smaller one. It took some time but I made it fit the spot and I'm happy with it so far.

I will be blocking out the window in the summer and winter with insulation. In the spring and fall it will be open and I hope it wont cause any issues. If it does I guess I will deal with it in some way.

congrats on the build man......let me know when u wanna upgrade that lennox unit :)
I just upgraded that unit but I have one other one I want to upgrade but it will have to wait until next year.

Amazing build, this is going to be one amazing tank! Just wondering, but did you treat the marco rock beforehand? I've heard stories of that rock leaching phosphate over time and a vinegar soak would rid any excess phosphate. Well I'm probably too late but Idk it might be clean. Congrats again!

hope thats not true! I used some as well!

I see you have a RODI system. Are you going to continue to use the saltwater from catalina or are you going to make your own water?

HMMM. I had not heard that. I have a buddy with a photometer that I will try to borrow to check into this. If there is phosphate in the water it would have had to come from the rock, sand, or water. Will let you know what I find.

I plan on making my own water from now on.

i cant see your pictures....
is says your bandwidth has been exceeded...
i didnt know if you knew this or not?

I'm really liking how things are looking so far with your setup! Great work!
I wanted to look back at previous pics to check but you're out of bandwidth so I figured I'd just ask... How are your overflow drains connected to your sump? I know your plumbing goes down, underground, and then up into the fish-shed; is the sump sitting on the floor? Also, what size plumbing are you using and how much flow through are you going to have?

I've been mulling over a large setup in my basement but the tank would need to be located across the basement from where my current fish room is -- I was thinking of having a small sump under the tank linked under the basement floor to another sump in the fish room. Your setup is the closest to this I've seen. :)

Thanks!
Tyler

I just wanted to chime in with my experience with dry rock. My tank started out fine, I got some brown filmy algae at first, but then I changed my bulbs and hair algae took over the tank. So far I've tried dosing lanthanum chloride vodka, AlgaeFix Marine, and so far none of them seem to work. You will save yourself a lot of trouble if you pull those rocks out and soak them in acid.

Where was your dry rock from? With low phosphate in the tank I'm not sure if its really necessary. My rock is starting to get the brown film algae now. Where are your nitrates and PO4?
