My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

Ryan i just spent a few hours reading your build Great work! You have awesome ideas and a great choice in Materials! Keep up the great work

What VFD are you using? And where did you get it.

The iwaki I guess is a 220v iwaki 100 correct? Or are iwaki pumps interchangeable between 110v and 220v??

Thanks!!!

Was taking a few pictures tonight for the guy that supplied my LED's for under the bar so he could use the pictures on his website. Thought I would share them here as well. The 6 firefish and 2 bar gobies are now in the tank and I have 5 threadfin cardinals and a midas now in QT.

I took these pictures as it got darker

any new updates

Nothing too exciting. My mini split AC arrived yesterday and will be installed in the next week or 2. So far the evap cooler is easily doing the job. I have a few video's I took but I still need to figure out how to get them uploaded. I have made the hard decision to pull all the fish out and QT them again. My 5 new threadfin cardinals that came from a very reputable source came down with ick within 48 hours of going into the QT. So either they came in with it from the reputable fish store or there was already ick in the QT, and if that is the case it's in the main system. Since I only have a few fish in the tank I have decided to play it safe are pull everything out. On a good side note this will make it easier to put all my shrimps , snails and hermits in as I won't have to QT them. I have 10 cleaners, 8 peppermints, and 2 fire shrimp along with a verity of snails and hermits on the way. Also my first round of corals have made it out of the coral QT and into the inline frag system. I hope to get a few sps in the tank this weekend and see if the solartubes along will support them. I'm hoping to wait until after the summer to add on the hadlies or LED's.

Ryan fwiw I got 5 from the same store exactly a month ago to date and there were no sign of infection (prophylactic). Better now than later I guess...

Sweeeet tank! How did you manage to catch the fire fish in your main tank? I'm about to switch tanks and really dreading having to catch my fire fish.

I have yet to catch the firefish yet but hopefully they are as easy as this tang was.

You just need to get some coraline in there to purple/red/yellow up those rocks :)

That would help a lot!

Got the mini split installed over the weekend. Amazingly even with 110-114 degree temps here the past few days the evap cooler is still doing the job. In a few more weeks the humidity will move in and I will be forced to use the AC unit but I will continue to use the evap as long as I can get away with it. Other than that no big updates. I have been busy working on the tank but nothing really worth noting. I picked up 14 more threadfin cardinals from someone breaking down their tank a few weeks ago to add to the 5 I already had. They will hopefully make a great school after they finish QT. Hopefully this week I will trench the lines from the shed to the house for the electrical for the display lights (I want them to be on their own breaker off the shed)and the usb and cat 5 for the apex controller. Due to the high temps I have been dragging on this job.

Which mini split did you go with, and did you get it online? I've been interested in installing one in my wet room, but thus far have survived with a portable unit.
