My 65 Gallon Mixed Reef

Still no sign of Biggles. I think we need to organize a search party for him Sahin, bello and myself and anyone else that wants to come is welcome:). We just need something or someone to distract Kevin and I'm not putting my hand up to do it;). And while Kevin is distracted we grab Biggles and run:D.

You lot grab Biggles, I'm grabbing Biggles's corals (all the SSC's and that awesome new Echinata) and running. :lol:
 
Hey everyone, sorry for the long absence but my mom who's in her seventies had a mild heart attack so i dropped everything and went home. I came back after 5 or 6 days away, saw the snails clowning around and filmed them, then i noticed something was wrong with ALL the acros. It turned out that the power board with just the LED sump frag section light and the WP-25 plugged in had tripped - the Eheim 1046 was on another board so it kept the display water circulating through that 50L section, no other circulation. If i had put the feed pump on the same board i would have just lost the sump frag section life but instead the big algae die off along with all the dead acros went straight into the display.
I then got a call that mom had developed a dangerous irregular heartbeat that required shocking back into a regular rhythm so i left again and everything is now fine with mom and my idiot brother has finally showed up so i got back yesterday - remind me to tell you guys what i did to him when i was 7 and he was 9 that to this day requires all the lights to be on all night, his wife has to use sleeping goggle things lol. He is also claustrophobic which is related to the same 'trauma' i apparently subjected him to. He's also a liar, one time when he was 11 he said he would jump off the garage roof with biggles onto the lawn. biggles had been doing it for a year so older brother finally showed some backbone and accompanied biggles up to the roof.

Note: biggles doesn't tolerate liars and if you say you're going to jump off a roof then one way or another you ARE going off that roof.

Long story short he ended up in hospital with a fractured ankle - apparently he has arthritis there now and that's somehow my bloody fault too. My sister hasn't eaten chicken for the last 35 years or so and get this - apparently that's my fault too for 'traumatising' her with a headless chicken. I hope you guys can see the pattern here......... both my siblings find it easier to blame biggles than to just accept they were poorly prepared going into the speriments phase of my childhood.

Anyway back to my tank crashing. I should have turned that feed pump off but i didn't and all the rotted filth and die off was continually fed to the display. Today i removed 11 acros including 7 SSC pieces and everything is losing tissue at the base and tips. I knew you guys would prob want to know the readings so i did nitrate -15 and phos i tested twice 0.18 and 0.16. The tank smells like a freshwater tank after gravel cleaning, that stinky off smell i bet most of you know if you kept cichlids etc, like dirty swampy water. I've taken the toxic sump section off line and emptied it. Last night i did a 20% water change with water i matched in alk and salinity, temp etc and everything put out distressed filaments and 6 acros RTN'd 30 mins later. Not doing any more water changes at this stage.
I'm running carbon as i bet all the acro slime etc they're giving off isn't a good thing for them to be swimming in. Echi, SSC, pink milli, pink table, blue stag, basically every acro i treasure is dead or dying so i'm extremely bummed as you can imagine.

I'm off for 3 days now and i always try to show you guys all my ups and downs so tomorrow i'll go into more detail and take some top downs that show you exactly what is happening. I turned the lights off at 5pm so i didn't have to look at the corals.

The fish and Potatohead are good so that's cool, a few acros don't seem to be too worried about the water but 90% of the acros are in serious trouble - even the green monster is losing tissue and that bloody thing is tough. I'll reply to the PM's i have from friends here tomorrow but tonight i'm going to hang out with Kevin in his tree and have a sulk lol.

As always it was my fault for not forward thinking, these things like where to plug in certain pieces of equipment can have profound impacts on your tank so i hope you all take a while to think about what will happen if something goes wrong with your power and you don't have NASA control gear looking over everything lol. I appreciate all you guys worrying where i'd gone a lot btw :) :beer:

Man Biggles I'm so sorry for you. Sorry about your mum, that would have been a shock to hear she had a heart attack and I'm so glad she's alright:). If it was my mum I would have dropped everything and gone straight away too. My grandpa had a heart attack a while ago(I don't know if was around then:-o) and my mum says that was very traumatic for her, he made a full recovery. Please send my regards to her for a good recovery. And losing most of those corals mate that must cut deep, all that work and to lose so much :( I wish you the best of luck trying to save some of them. If I was on that side of aus I'd be there to help in a flash. I do know what that smells like in freshwater and its not what a reef should smell like. And what happened to your brother? Its must be annoying being blamed for all that when it clearly wasn't your fault lol. Its so good to hear from you mate and I wish I was on that side of aus so I could lend a hand.

Glad to hear that she's doing better now. Too bad about the acros :(. Dunno what to say :(
 
I'm glad your mother is ok biggles.
Health and family are far more important than our tanks buddy.
The part regarding your siblings was funny and i admire you for not loosing your sense of humor,while you are in the middle of all these.

So sorry about the tank too:(
I hope you'll save as more as possible,fix what needs fixing and make our jaws drop again:beer:
 
Mate, sorry about all the bad turn of events in your life. :sad1:

Hope you mother makes good recovery. Sorry we are not in the same country, would have at least helped look after your tank during this time (if you trust me not to snip a frag of the Echinata).

It's really sad also that your acros are heading to RTN/STN. Man, I wish I could have helped. Keep us posted as to how things are going.

Stupid Murphy and his damn law...these things always happen together at the same time. :angryfire:
