My Bigger Piece of the Reef (LotsOPics)

I did say you don't need it.You of course don't have to listen to me.I never use primer because most of the pipe is brand new.If you glue it and you can't pull it apart its fine.It won't come apart. If the pipe is new in general the glue will stick and weld without using primer. No I didn't get fired for leaks.I don't use PVC on the job.Only for drainage and that PVC is thinner.PVC pipe will come apart under a lot of heat.I have seen it rot.But we are talking drainage pipe not potable water pipe. The two are not the same.

Thats ok.I was just trying to bust chops.I myself don't feel the need to use it but it is better to use it.I find with PVC water pipe the glue works well. The last thing you want is a leak.In general I don't see the glue leaking in the future once its stuck if its glued well you are not going to pull the fittings apart unless you cut them with a hack saw.You did a nice job on everything.I sometimes forget that I work with my hands all the time while others don't and they feel nervous about attempting stuff like this. Its good to see you did it.My brother in law is useless. He can't use a screw driver if his life depended on it.Few years back he got 2 wooden horses that rock as a chritsmas gift for the twins. The toys are still in the box he never even tried to put them together. It wasn't that hard to do but like I said he is pretty useless when it comes to working with his hands. He would rather pay someone to do it.Plus he doesn't have to skills to do it anyways.Good progress on the tank.

That's funny... My wife reminded me this weekend that I used to be that guy. I've never been a total moron when it comes to building stuff but, 9 years ago when we got married... I was the guy who said, "I'll just pay someone to do it." But, as I've aged... I now get more pleasure from creating it and making it work. But, this plumbing issue has been a little trying.

And... Thanks.

So, we had a snow day on tuesday so I got to work on my reef structure. I broke a Marco shelf rock in half and this came out. A dead, very smelly mussell.

whoa...that's strange.

It's not that strange. I live on the plateau... It snow 2 or 3 times a year here.

Oh no... They're real. I think they are live rocks that were harvested and left out to long to be sold as live rock so Marco buys them and sells them dry.

When they arrive... you can smell them thru the box and the stuff that comes off of them is nasty. I had to soak them in a water / viegar solution for 3 days and they still stink a little. But, I think with the skimmer running and carbon, they should help cycle the tank.

They are going in the tank this weekend.

Were you trying to break it on purpose?

Yes... It was too big so I drilled holes down the middle and then used a chissle. This gave me 2 pieces that I could zip tie to the back.

hmmm...I did not know that. For some reason I thought he was making the rock.

I read in a thread a couple of weeks ago that they were artificial. Maybe that's where you got it. But, I'm here to tell you that it sure smells real. A little too real if I do say so, myself.

yeah mine stank pretty good. I have a couple shelfs that take up just about the whole width of my tank. I have been thinking about breaking 1 of mine. But I ordered them that big. Oh well ..It blocks a lot of light. I was going to leave that area for stuff tha doesn t need that much light but damm it is a big rock.. Lets see some more pics when you get a chance.

Well... the day I've been waiting for, finally came. The reef is in the tank! No water, as of yet... but, who need water?
