My Black Ocellaris pair are spawning!!!

I would checkout this book if you are really interested. There is far too much for anyone to type out all at once. Basically you need Phyto (you can culture your own or buy a paste that will work) to feed the Rotifers (you pretty much have to culture these on your own) to feed the Clown fry. You need a 5 or 10 gallon tank with a heater and an airstone and have the sides blacked out so they can't see through. You need to really watch the ammonia and keep up with your water changes. When they reach metomorphosis you can transfer them to a grow out tank of suitable size with filtration to take care of all the waste. I wouldn't call it "easy" money. I can make more in the time I've spent on these fish doing something else. It is fun though.

Well I drove to a nearby city (Kingston) to get my Hatchery. The one I found turned out to be no good. I thought it had a connector for a air pump ect. It didn't. From what I've found out about hatching brine shrimp it was going to be low production. So I made one. I've lost 1 more fry. It got stuck on the ammonia badge that I bought. I bought the wrong one and figured that out last night. I didn't bother taking it out until today... I wish I had taken it out last night. I added a pic of the growout tank. I'm using a Fluval 304 for filtration. I have had the foam pads in my sump for a couple weeks. I need to pickup some bio balls or ceramic rings to fill the chambers. With more fry on the way I'm going to need more filtration. I hope it will be enough. I see lots of water changes in my future.. I also added a current picture of one of the fry just because.

The first hatchery that I'm not using...

This is my DIY hatchery. I just stuck a airline tube through the cap and connected my air line.

Here it is in the tank running. (to keep the eggs at 80deg without needing another heater) I couldnt figure a better way than the clamp. I didn't want it tight to the side (another trap to loose more fry) it sits out a bit because of the trim on the tank.

Here's my growout tank. Its 29 gallons.

Here's a pic of a fry at 8 days. You can see the rotifers in the water.

I wish it was more simple as well. Any time your going to try and replicate mother nature its not going to be easy. Its worth it though. I'm having fun. After the hatch you want the room to be dark. I shined a flashlight at the top of the water. The fry are attracted to the light. Then I used a plastic container to get them out. The ones that wouldnt come up I used a turkey baster for. :)

Ok my fry are at day 9. Can I use some sort of filtration on the larvae tank? Its a 10g tank and I'm doing 50% waterchanges daily. Its very time consuming. I need to find a way to streamline the process. As well its very costly. Pictures / names of equipment / ideas would be nice if possible.

Do you need to be doing that large of a water change? I have my 50 Day 11 larvae in a 5g tank and change 20% every morning. I can tell you what might have helped me, I took the chance and added a golf ball size piece of liverock from about Day 2 already. Water quality has been great and my larvae seem to like it as one has already claimed it as a territory (which is hilarious to watch).

Your pictures are awesome, keep up the good work digging through the mud raising the first time....for my years in the hobby this has been the most intense fun I have experienced.

Well I'm using AP test kits and I can't really tell how much ammonia is in there. The colours <-- Canadian spelling don't really match the card. I know there is some ammonia because I compared it to a sample from my main tank. I'm going to pickup a good ammonia badge and hopefully cut down the water changes. I don't know that a golf ball sized rock would be enough to do much. Thanks I'm not much of a photographer but I try. A friend loaned me her SLR so hopefully the pics will be better soon :)

I picked up another 10g / heater / air pump / stones ect for the next batch today. The wife told me my fish crap is going in the basement this weekend. The larvae tank has been in the bedroom and she can't sleep with all the bubbling lol.

Here are some more pictures. I have my second 10g setup and ready for the fry that should arrive tonight or tomorrow night. I used 5g of water from my display so they aren't shocked when I put them in. I hadn't covered the sides yet in the picture but they are covered now. I borrowed a friends digital SLR so I was able to get some decent closeups. The fry are 14 days old at this point.
