My Breeding attempt - Perculas:

Well here is where i am at with this hatch. I pulled the tile out at lunch today took a picture and recounted the ones still on there and came up with 235. So 504-235=269. Add to that number all the other ones on the bottom of the tank and let's just say that i have some that are swimmers at this point.

On a more positive note i did notice at lunchtime that some look to have silver belly's so that is a good sign for now. Here are some pictures not real good ones but i will take a A for effort.

I played hockey with/against and refed Rico Fata when I was younger.
I have refed John Tavares (Not there yet)
I have refed Tyler Kennedy (Pittsburgh)
I'm sure there are more.

I grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, ON where the OHL Greyhounds play and have watched a large number of NHL players go through there. Rico Fata, Jeremy Stevenson, Chris Simon, Dan Cloutier, Ted Nolan, Joe Thornton, Adam Foote, Josef Vasicek, Rick Tocchet, Jeff Beukeboom, Bob Probert, Rob Zettler.

FB

That's not to shabby of a list
Sure must be neat to be able to say yeah I knew so & so back when they were first starting out.

I get partial hatches too sometimes. If the rest don't hatch by the second night i pull them out. Been there done that and the success rate after the 2nd night is slim to none, so I wouldn't bother. Normally when this happens half hatch each night, but sometimes I don't have that luck. GL with the new babies :D

Thanks; it just sucked to take a garden hose to the tile though maybe the rose bushes will bloom orange!

That and i have to adjust my #'s and say that around 50% hatched.

oh well some is better than none.

Partial hatches can be saved using a second container. Just transfer the eggs to a bowl or second tank. If it happens again increase the temp a degree and see if that changes it.

Ok bad news: I lost all of them last night:sad1:
and i think it was one of two things or maybe a combination of both: I think i may have added to many rot's yesterday at lunch to the tank because this morning the tank was packed full of rot's, i actually could not believe how many of them were in there, my airstone was set to low i think and the rot explosion used up the oxygen in the tank?? The bottom of the tank is covered in carcasses. At least that's what i think happened because there is no way they starved. back to the drawing board.

Atticus; thanks for the suggestion that would solve the issue i had with trying to hatch the rest while watching those that had hatched tumble around.
Tank temp. was 80 i will try and bump it up to 81 or so for the next attempt.

I have been trying to read through your thread. I have been able to raise around 300 past the fry stage, so if there is any help I can give please ask(not that I know what I'am doing). Here is a thread I stated. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1511060&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

Just read through your thread; 23 years is a very nice compliment to what must be your good maintenance & love.

Oh man! I am SO sorry. I thought you were joking at first until I read the whole post - I kept waiting for the punch line. That just sucks!

Man o Man! That's a real bummer, I'm living vicariously through you so please don't give up! Although i know you won't.

Keep us posted with all the latest. Is the tile back in the DT? When is momma due to be due?

Thanks guys on the bright side i guess i gained another rot tank, lol. I plan to drain the tank tonight and run most of the water through my plankton collector and just dump the rot's back into my rotifer tank for now.

jmadison: I am not done this is just one more setback to learn from; ironic because i may have been like what a half turn of the air valve too conservative?
yes i actually placed the tile back in the same spot right after i removed the ones that had eggs on it.
timeframe for new eggs not sure yet she usually takes 4 to 5 days off in-between

Hang in there. Once you conquer this process, you'll be so happy.

Thanks: just a small setback and another lesson learned.

Yeah you'll get it. This hobby can be pretty frustrating at times..

It sure can be but if this was easy then everybody would do it

:D

Good news update: New eggs laid on Friday night on the tile again so looks like Dec. 1 i get another chance.

So she hit the tile again - that is good news!

I am glad to see you're still hanging in there. Like others, I am living vicariously through you until there's a time in my life when I can attempt breeding.

We look forward to some updates in early December.

Good luck.

Once they start laying the eggs on the tile I think they get real comfortable doing it. I now only have to put the tile near the nem. and even if it's crooked they still lay the eggs there. So hopefully it's just a matter of pulling the tile out, at hatch night, from now on for you :D Sure beats worrying about how your going to catch them
