I add the rotifers and phyto before they hatch as well. Never with any problems. However it was never three days.

How is your ammonia doing?

FB

Ammonia still is fine in the larvae tank; however i just checked on them this morning & still no hatch:hmm1:

What should i do? leave them in there i guess? I put the tile in the tank Sunday night, that would make tonight the 9th day since they were laid.

Yes the majority of them are still silver & staring back at me lol. I can try and snap a picture today when i go home for lunch.

It doesn't sound likely that there are any survivors at this point with some eggs turning white and others covered in green slime. A picture would be helpful!

This is why I don't add rots or greenwater until they actually hatch since we sometimes don't know exactly when they will hatch. The rots are adding ammonia and waste to the egg water. It would be like putting the eggs into a rot culture - yuck!

Are the eggs on a tile? You may want to return a tile to the parents so they can spawn again.

I have to say this is one of the most informative threads that i have read in a very long time. Last week I noticed my clowns had laid eggs for the first time. They started out in the yellowish orange stage and are now in the silver big eye stage. I am in no way ready to keep this batch, but now that I have a good understanding on what is involved I plan on trying soon. Good luck with this batch Chris!! I look forward to seeing a successful outcome.

I agree with you completely that this round has not gone how I would have liked it to that's for sure.
Yes the eggs in the larvae tank are on a tile, and i do plan to place a new tile in the reef today to try & catch the next batch.

Thanks; If you would like to do some more reading with information from people that have actually been successful :D

Hey it took me 9 clutches of eggs to get one survivor ! LOL Hang in there, that group on the tile might hatch tonight.
I'll trade you some brown sps's for those eggs on your tile.

I think there might be a chance that they will still hatch, i took some pictures at lunch and will get them up in a little bit.

The reason i say this is because when i removed the front cover at lunch to take the pictures the eggs on the tile looked much better today than yesterday most of the green algae i was seeing is gone i guess turning up the bubbles did good.

But even better than all that was what i saw swimming around today; 1 single larvae:bounce1: he must have hatched last night sometime.:D

I have had some real nice sps turn arounds from being browned out so you never know in this hobby. lol

Ok here are some pictures i got today at lunch since the light was on:
Here is the tile with the eggs if you blow up the picture you can see that some of the ones on the tile are white (dead)

Here is the larvae tank setup for this attempt this time around i am using a 5g tank:

I got one in the tank now lol; i bet he is a happy camper as he has plenty of food to chase down. Hopefully his brothers & sisters will join him tonight.

LOL; well the rotifers have had a 3 day headstart at this point, i have not added any since sunday night and they seem to be doing fine. i am just glad that i got some of that IA on hand because i think all of my home grown phyto is/has crashed.

Chris, here is a link to one of my posts showing what my eggs look like just hours before hatch. Click on the picture in my post to see the video -

The eggs on your tile don't look very mature compared to what I see with my eggs prior to hatch. So not sure what will happen with yours.

I don't even bother with live phyto now. Instant Algae is always in the frig! No need to worry about my rotifers being without greenwater.

Barbara; Thank you for the post very cool videos by the way. Over the last couple of months that i have had eggs in the reef tank i have never seen any of mine look like the ones that you have that's for sure. The silver on your eggs is very easy to see in the video.

I think i was impatient with this batch and pulled them a day or two to early from the tank; at this point i am sure that mistake will effect the outcome of these eggs. I was having a problem with the eggs slowly vanishing after the 3rd day, I believe i have fixed that problem by removing the peppermint shrimp that were in the tank, i think they were eating the eggs during the night, while the male was cozy with the female in their anemone.

I watched my tank as 2 different batches slowly vanished and were completely gone before day 6. So when this batch hit day 7 & turned silver on top i pulled them as i was wanting to try again.

Update i checked the larvae tank this morning & only another 5 or 6 of them hatched last night.

I don't know if i should leave the tile in for one more day and then pull it out regardless if it has eggs still on it or not.

The IA has been very nice, simply pull it out of the fridge, dose & put it back. I am just glad that i did buy some of it, otherwise i would have nothing to feed my rotifers right now.

I would leave the tile in the tank for at least one more day. What can it hurt?

Having less larvae may be a blessing. My second batch I only started with 9. I finished with 5. This will allow you to see the whole process plus you will probably have an abundance of food to feed so they will grow quickly, produce less waste and your water quality will remain high (hopefully;) )

FB

FB; I think you think like me what could one more day hurt at this point, but i am thinking that after tonight i need to remove the tile even if there are eggs still attached as that would be 4 days. I would think at some point the eggs that have not hatched will start to pollute the water. Would you agree?

I really would like to see the whole process at some point, lol. or at least have a couple go through meta. this time around as i did not get to see that happen last time even though i made it to the 20th day.
From the ones i saw this morning they should not have any problems finding food to eat as the tank is packed with rotifers at the moment.

So by leaving the tile in place last night i seem to have picked up probably the last ones that are going to hatch from this batch; best headcount i could get this morning is around 10 total, so i guess that is what i will have to work with on this attempt. There are still many eggs on the tile but most of them now look to be no good, (at least to me) the majority of them look milky white on top from what i can tell, so i plan to pull the tile out when i get home today at lunch time and just go with what's in the larvae tank.
