Thanks; and yeah it works & actually i think this is how i am going to go about removing the larvae from the tank from now on; because if i had pulled the tile when i was going to i would have been 2 days early and from last time that's not a good thing, lol. The other plus i see of doing it this way is it keeps the eggs with the male for the longest amount of time & i figure he has mother nature on his side so it has to be better then me trying to pick a bubble rate,etc.
I think i caught around 50-60 of them i did not get all them but i was getting worried as the tank had been shut down for a while.
I have lost some already though maybe 15 total i counted this morning.
I was going to use the led moonlight from my tunze's but i failed to remember that if i shut off the pumps the light does not work, duh :rolleye1: i will have to get something else set-up.

Good enough for me, lol. Quick question for you this is the first time i have ever looked into my tank at night with the pumps being off for that long, and i was a bit surprised to see all of the different life in the water column have you noticed the same?
I felt like the pied piper leading the larvae towards the snagger, lol.
but there was allot of critters out & about.

Yeah at first i thought look at all the larvae then i looked closer and those are not all larvae, lol some kind of pod or baby mysis i think, maybe even rotifers as i have been feeding those to the tank as well.
I caught all kinds of things; larvae,pods,mysis they all went into the larvae tank.
I did some cleaning up on the larvae tank at lunchtime. Siphoned out the dead ones there were about 15-20. I think it may have been due to "transfer damage" even though i tried to carefully pour them in. I don't think they starved as the tank is packed full of rotifers and IA.

Okay i have been getting some questions via pm/email about the snagger that i talked about well here is what i used as mentioned before i borrowed the idea from agsansoo thread.
I had to make some adjustments to the one i posted before due to the cutouts on the top of my tank so this is version #2. The box is a Rubbermaid container that measures 10.5"L x 6"W x 5"D. I used a dremel tool to cut out a slot on one end of the box that is 3.25"L x 1/2H. This is where the larvae are sucked into the snagger. I also used the dremel tool to cut off the lip on one side of the box so that it will sit flush against the aquarium wall.
I used a 3" pvc coupling and a coffee filter and joined the 2 together with aquarium silicone. The idea here is the coffee filter allows the pump to pull water through the container while keeping the larvae away from the pump.

For flow i used my mini-jet 404 off of my carbon reactor & used a bunch of elbows/tubing from my box of junk to make the return hose that pumps the water back into the tank. I added a ball valve as well so that i could adjust the flow in the container itself.
This whole thing is lowered into the tank and held in place with a standard magnet.
I set it up so that the slot in the front was about a 1/2" below the surface of the water.
You turn off all of the pumps in the tank and set up a light source pointed at the slot as the larvae are drawn to the surface & the light they are sucked into the container and then can be transferred to the larvae tank.

So the filter is just to keep the critters out of the pump. For some reason, I thought you cut a slit in the black PVC so they would swim 'toward the light' (in the snagger), then as you lift it up from the tank, the fry would collect in the basket beneath.
Where did you shine the light? That slot is pretty big. I'm guessing the light keeps them in the rubbermaid, but what keeps out your other livestock? A wrasse would fit through easily.

and i have made some changes to my food station i was getting tired of all the pumps so i picked up a Coralife Super Luft Air Pump and it easily runs the multiple things that i need. I have also changed over to a 4' bulb to accommodate more bottles at once. I am also trying out some Rubbermaid containers for the phyto instead of the 2L bottles. The lids on them are easily removable and i clean them out when needed.

Yep, that's all the filter is for, it allows the water to pass through the box without letting the larvae get chopped up by the pump. I have also been told that i can use the filter setup for doing water changes on the larvae tank and the filter will not let many of the rotifers pass thru either.
The light source is pointed at the slot in the container i simply used a small mag flashlight, when the larvae hatch they head towards the surface and are attracted to the light, and are then sucked into the snagger, as i posted before my flashlight actually died sometime between my fishing attempt (1.5 hours) so i replaced the battery and actually led them towards the container inch by inch.
When i was done i removed the whole thing and carried it out to my garage and then transferred the larvae over.
That is one of the questions i had as well i thought if they swim in they will swim out, but the current is what keeps them in the container, once they are in there they seem to fall to the bottom and just hang out.
I do have a 6 line in the tank but he goes to bed at lights out and he is actually pretty fat although if he wanted to i bet he could find a way in.

I have been using a combination of my phyto and the IA as well.
Obession?? you mean what she lovingly calls my meth lab in the garage, lol. I have been having some issues with my reef lately, sandbed is in bad shape and my monti caps are fading fast, she knows i have been frustrated and when i told her last night that i was going to drain the tank and turn it into a goldfish refuge she just laughed and me and said you would be bored with that in a hour,
and she is right just don't tell her that

lol, funny you should mention that, Of all the tanks that i have had one of things that has always drove me crazy was the crud that builds up in the front of the sandbed. You can always see it but with acrylic tanks it is a pain to clean and so easy to scratch. So when i setup this tank (i built the stand & canopy) i was thinking of going barebottom but i was following some of the threads and did not like how some of the tanks seemed to crash or have problems maintaining parameters. I built the stand so the tank sits down into it and from my easy chair or the couch in my living room you can not really see the sand at all. You can see it if you are standing in front of the tank of course.

What system do you use? zeovit?
oh & a larvae question today starts day 5 for them, i can introduce bbs later today if i want right? I started a batch last night so there may be some ready later tonight. There is still a ton of rotifers in the larvae tank and the ammonia badge says all clear so far.
maybe you could name your anemones the uber-rare white ghosts.
I have been reading up on dosing aa for the sps, etc.
What system do you use? zeovit?

Ghost anemones ... LOL
I use a mixed system. Prodibio with ZEOvit additives and Warner Marine amino acids.
