Yay for you Dazed!

So do you have a tile in place ready to snag the next clutch since you have space now?
Btw, you havent talkjed about any more double clutches lately; did they knock that off?

Thanks so did you vote:lol:
Sure do i always rotate the tile in/out even if i don't plan on trying to keep the batch it helps keep the coraline algae etc, off of the tile that way my female does not have to spend hours cleaning it off each time, i have seen her get so into it that she has scuffed up her mouth area from time to time. Here is the next group of volunteers:

this tile is coming out tonight for hatching.

I interrupted what would have been a double clutch on 4-27-09 i just happen to be home and working on the tank when i noticed she started to lay some of the eggs around the existing clutch so i quickly switched the tiles and she finished without any issues if i had not been home it would have been a double clutch again for sure; one of the times i got lucky i guess.

And yes, I was the 2nd voter!
Well I hope all goes well with this latest clutch! Fingers crossed!

Sadly I lost my female yesterday, she was too cool for that whole eating thing:( and well anorexia kills...(tried Frozen brine/mysis/cyclops/rotifiers, dried brine/splurna, tubifex, live black worms, Formula1, Hakiri Marine S, and Spectrum pellets- male eats like, well, a MALE and she wasnt having it...)

thanks; sorry to hear about your female seems like out of all that you offered her something should have tickled her fancy, did she not eat from when you first got her? or is this something that just started recently?

Last night's hatch went well for the first time in a while i had a 100% hatch i removed the tile from the tank last night just before lights out around 9:20pm. I transferred the tile to the 5g larvae tank which i had setup with water from the dt a couple of hours before, I checked on them around 11:30 last night and they all had hatched, at that time i did not see any losses on the bottom. This morning i tinted the water and added the rot's and did notice that there were some that had already perished. I will have to check on them at lunchtime today and see how they are doing.

I just voted for you too ! Good luck. :D

thanks; i just voted as well a bit SCANDALOUS i guess; but hey even our own president get's to cast a vote and who do you think he votes for

Theres nothing wrong with being a bit biased :)

And ya she ate hakiri marine s when I got her. Sadly I think she was bullied by the sixline at first and swas just affraid of it repeating everytime she ate even after the 6line was gone!

-side note- I pick up my 180 tomorrow :D

I guess your right:D

I don't remember off the top of my head but wasn't this a pair of GSM's that you had/have?
If so i can't imagine her being bullied by the 6-line, although i do have a 6-line in my dt he's been in there forever and will harass anything i add to the tank unless they are much bigger than him.

Nice pick up on the 180 you must be excited.

nope it was a pair of picassos, and it was an itty-bitty sixline... little b#stard though! Definetly the last one I'll own!

I'm deciding what kind of pair of clowns to add to my stock list. Maybe a pair of Mccullochs LOL! Would maroons be too much of a terror?

You got my vote :)

This thread has helped me out very much. Although Im still struggling to to get my fry past 4 weeks old or watermelon seed size, hehe.

Lately I have one of the fry that is attacking the others. Its killed two already but Im hoping he becomes civilized soon. They are maroon clowns though, hehe

Ah that makes more sense my 6-line can hold his own for sure, he's not so little though, just last week i had to make a choice on keeping him or not as he jumped into my external overflow box on my tank i thought about removing him but i have had him for so long i put him back in.

Make sure you add a Gem tang (Zebrasoma gemmatum) to go along with the pair of Mccullochs:cool:

The maroons get big & territorial but with a 180 you have allot of options.

Thanks; glad i could be of some help. How many juveniles do you have in the tank with the one who is getting bossy?

I have found that by keeping the stocking density higher the more aggressive ones can't keep picking on the same fish causing death.

Of course when first starting out and trying to get the hang of things it sometimes is not possible due to the number of fish that you have to work with. I know for me it was a problem as my first batch that i was able to keep; some have flat faces from all the little battles that go on. I am sure this problem is probably magnified since we are talking about maroons.

They are in a 20 gallon with 10 gallons of water. I have about 10-15 left. For some reasone my just start dying of 3-5 each day until they are ll dead. I feed them bbs and otohime B1 and B2.

This is what I do as well. Spread the hate :)

If it gives you an idea my larvae / first stage growouts are 10g and I have 200 - 400 in them at that age. Pack those suckers in a smaller area. Maybe a 2.5g?

I like that comment spread the hate:D

200-400 in a 10g :eek2: wow that must look real cool at feeding time.

Nanz:Until you get your numbers per batch up it's a frustrating thing to do, if you moved them into a smaller amount of water then the water quality could be compromised no?

I know i went through this same thing as i said earlier my first batch is a mis match of weird looking fish but i could not stock more of them together simply because i did not have any more to work with, the food offering seems fine, when you are having the die offs is there any noticeable problems with the tank? cloudy water, low/hi ph not really sure what it could be just trying to give some ideas of things to look for.
