My Breeding attempt - Perculas:

Well just a quick update i missed one batch in the dt, was just to busy. The latest group was hatched on the 5th of may and for some reason they seem to be developing very slowly (14 days) and only a couple of them have reached meta. not sure why. They are eating bbs & oto a so i guess i will just leave them alone and see what happens.

Well i have another major set back to add to my ongoing list of failures, went out this morning to feed the tanks before coming to work & found that one of the tanks that had a mix of 2 batches was a complete loss. Those guys were about a month old or so and although developing slow as i had posted they were alive. The water was somewhat opaque white so i am guessing some kind of bacteria bloom happened over night and decimated the tank.

Chris - I did not realize that bacterial infestations could move in that aggressively. I am sorry for your loss, seems like with such a quick onset there was nothing much you could do???

:(

Me either really, i have had the cloudy water happen before but this is the first time i have experienced a total loss from it. Usually i have just done a wc to correct the issue and all seems to move along just fine, that unfortunately was not the case this time.

Yes not much you can do when you feed the tank some oto @9:30 last night and all is well and when you turn the lights on this morning @ 6:45 and find a graveyard. Very frustrating to think of the time & effort involved in the two batches to get them to where they were probably lost 75 fish if i had to guess .

And the licks keep on coming. Sorryman

They sure seem to; with the issues in my dt and all the ongoing problems lately, sometimes i think to myself i need a new hobby. :D

I did check on the tank at lunch though and found 3 survivors so i moved them into the other tank, they are bigger than the ones in there for sure, the little little ones went running to the corners of the tank, but i don't know what else to do with them, they are to small to go into the 10g with the larger ones.

I'm sorry for your loss Dazed. That's really frustrating. How big was the tank they were in? Is it possible there was a lack of oxygen causing the deaths then the bacteria bloomed? Not that it changes anything but it may stop it from happening again if you can get an idea what happened.

It is frustrating for sure; it was a 5g tank with a seasoned sponge two groups combined so the oldest in there were probably around 30 days old or so, the air was bubbling away this morning as well, not really sure what happened this time around. thanks for the kind words as always.

Yep and has worked before in the past without this kind of issue, still not sure what happened to the tank. Last night i drained it not fun at all looking at what was in the bottom of the bucket. I threw the heater & all of the other removable pieces into a 5g bucket with a mixture of vinegar & water, I will have to do the same with the tank soon. I guess the only bright side i can come up with is i now have an empty tank for the eggs in my dt.

Hopefully :D
I have thinking over & over as to what could have happened and the only thing i can come up with is the bbs that i added to the tank although i did rinse them so still not sure, just growing tired of the constant setbacks i guess. Take for instance the last batch that hatched on the 5th for some reason they seem to be refusing to get bigger over half of them are not even showing a hint of orange yet, i don't get it. The next round should hatch on this coming tuesday so i will have to wait until then.

Yay for you Dazed!

So do you have a tile in place ready to snag the next clutch since you have space now?
Btw, you havent talkjed about any more double clutches lately; did they knock that off?
