My Breeding attempt - Perculas:

Gresham that link is for Percula's though; I thought the ora snowflake's where ocellaris variety lol. I don't know how or if that would affect the price for a pair? anyone know?

side note for some reason the last small clutch still has not hatched as of today which is kind of strange maybe tonight though.

A pair of semi snowflakes went for $300 on LiveAquaria.
Nice looking fish too. I like them far more than full snowflake or platinum percs.

Chris an ORA Snowflake is an ORA Snowflake. Dr Foster and Smith get them direct so obviously some one made a mistake entering them in as IIRC they are ocellaris. What they are selling is the real deal though ;)

Gresham I don't doubt they are the real thing from dd i was reading this thread and it confused me;
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1383187

from that thread:
they breed every species of clownfish they can get their hands on and will breed for them.

percula -3 varieties, regular, picasso, stubby.
ocellaris-4 varieties, Black, white (snowflake), naked, and regular
maroon- 2 varieties, Gold stripe, white Stripe,
clarki
tomato
sebae-2 varieties.
i bet i am missing a few.
ORA is a huge operation, with big private funding and a huge customer base, all the clowns in Petco are from ORA.

just trying to figure out what kind of price to offer the guy i think his asking price is way to high.

Sure glad i waited and let the last batch go by. She came back with a good sized clutch which should be ready on the 1st of March, now all i have to do is figure out a place for them as right now i am all out of open tanks..

OK I'M BACK LOL!!:mixed:
and finally have something other to post about than they laid eggs, the eggs hatched & I'm raising babies.....
Last weekend i got a very sweet deal tossed my way (Names of the innocent withheld for their own protection........)
and i can finally get started on a growout system that is very much needed as i am all out of tanks at the moment. Although my numbers have not been all that great i have been plugging away & raising/selling what i can.

I hope to get started on this project over the extended weekend but will have to see how it goes.

I need to build a stand for the 4 new tanks & i also need to construct 2 sumps so i can have broodstock on one system & growout on the other.

I leak tested the tanks last weekend and 3 of them hold water just fine; the one tank that has the largest compartments has a leak but it is an easy fix, the silicone has dried up & cracked no big deal.

So here are some pictures of what i have to work with:

Looking for suggestions on how much flow is going to be needed for the tanks so i can get my return pumps figured out.

You don't have to hide who gave them to you :) I'm not worried about being outed for being generous

Which configuration are you going to use for each system... that'll help me toss a GPH to you :)

Gresh; generous for sure thanks again.

Right now i am thinking about setting up the one with the 3 large compartments for broodstock, i have 4 nice sized perc's in a 10g, so i want to split them into a pair each & then i want to break down my 40g with my pair of GSM in it and add them, i plan to spray paint the two inside acrylic barriers with some black krylon so none of the 3 pairs can see each other.

then for now use 1 of the other tanks for growout

just trying to figure out if i need drains & returns for each space or try to make it work with the existing holes.

I plan to try and keep the sumps close to reduce the head loss factors as well..

Okay, it took me two days but I made it through both threads. Wow, what a great read!!!

I thought...I can do this!!! So, I went out yesterday and got the necessary items to set up a 5 gallon BUT now I'm scared to set it up. (haha) I have to say, I may be second guessing this raising babies thing.

I am curious about the new set up. Are things up and going? Any new updates?

glad that you liked the thread & i hope somewhere in-between all of my ups & downs you were able to learn a few things:lmao:

to be honest if you already have a breeding pair on the go there is nothing to be scared about at all because if you do nothing then the fate of the eggs is already determined they will hatch and die in your display tank i am not going to lie it is work to raise them but i can tell you this the first time you see that first headstripe appear on a little one there is nothing that compares to it, i have read that in mother nature only 1% of the hatches reach a mature state anything that you do on your own over 1% you are doing well, if you need some more encouragement take a look at rkelman's thread here in the breeding section for more positive notes.

with regards to the new set-up i posted about right after i posted it unfortunately my wife came down with a illness that had to have her admitted to the hospital she was released, but has been re-addmitted since Wenesday and is currently there so for now all plans are on hold.

Well finally got something done to post & update with; even the best plans come to a screaming halt when your wife spends 10 days in the hospital over a 5 and a half week timeframe, anyways enough whining A big thanks to my friend Dean for his help & motivation to get this project back on track, i still need to complete a 2nd stand for the other sump system and rotifers but here are some pictures from this weekend.

First picture shows the tank layout the bottom shelf is going to be the sump area for the largest of the tanks and it will drain straight down and be pumped back i still need to black out the two side partitions on the tank i plan to house 3 different pairs in this tank.

The two other tanks on top will be used for growout i have modified these 2 tanks already by cutting them down 6" in height they will be plumbed together on a separate sump system.

2 coats of kilz & a couple of beers later:beer:

all of the tanks on the stand i will need to use a small step ladder to reach & access the very top one but i had to do this in order to fit into the space i have in the garage for the system at this time.

still have allot of stuff to do but at least some of it is done

sweet.

can U PLZ gice closeup photos of the tanks?

I thinking to do somthing like that to me fresh water breeding fish.

thank U and good luck!
Don't stop the updats!

I hope your wife is doing better as well, sad to hear that :(

Hey Gresham thanks for the kind words it's been pretty crazy around my place but things are settling back down & i can get back to the good old project list, lol... Sarah is doing much better and we are hopeful that all is under control.

For the tank setups i'm thinking i want to try and keep the head loss factor to a minimum so i don't have to run energy hungry pumps for the returns, thinking about a spray bar type return along the back wall what do you think?
