My C. marginalis

Just wanted to update. I recently added the marginalis to my FOWLR. It took a few days for him to get used to the hustle and bustle of the tank, compared to being alone in the QT. He's settled in nicely, and finally has learned to eat food off the floor, instead of only going for it when it first hits the water. And a bonus, it has taught the collare to also eat off the floor, which it hasn't done since I got it a year ago!

Excuse the tank itself, it's still settling after a major overhaul, and I have yet to get sand in there. Since the butterflies have eaten every "easy" coral I've tried to keep in there, I may try some nice macroalgae, though I doubt the meredithis will let any survive...

Hey thanks! Actually, it's darn full, especially with those meredithis growing. Once I get the tank dialed in, with sand and whatnot, I hope to get some small rock dwelling fish like gobies. Also, some shrimps and crabs to round it all out.

Wow! That's one batch of vibrant healthy looking fish! So very glad this turned out well. I had been wondering how he was doing. Awesome, Peter :D

Thanks Marie! I'm happy with the results. I was kicking myself for a few days there, thinking I must have lost my mind spending that much money on a delicate fish like a marginalis.

Peter, you have some beautiful fish. :inlove:

But may I ask why you decided to add the marginalis to your FOWLR and not to your reef tank?

cheers

Good question! The small yellow long nose is doing great in the reef. The saddleback is doing well, but the powder blue tang hates him, yet they tolerate each other now, and it looks like the saddleback is there to stay. I was just afraid the maginalis would be a disastrous addition to the mix, causing the PBT to snap.

Plus, the marginalis would never get enough food in the reef.

Not a great update. After coming back from vacation, the fish has a somewhat pinched stomach. It has a hard time keeping down food, and has been impossible to "fatten up" the way I used to. Not sure what came first. The inability to keep food down, or the pinched stomach, which now causes the regurgitation.

I'm going to get some live blackworms today. Hopefully we can get his stomach stretched out again, assuming that's the only problem.

Same thing happened with the live blackworms. He ate a few, which ended up clearly just stuck in his throat, judging by the way his gills looked, and ended up spitting at least a couple out. Could something be stuck in his throat, blocking the food? I've never experienced something like this before...

How long were you gone on vacation and did you have anyone feeding the fish while you were away?

I hope things get better for the margined!

I was gone for a month. Yes, I had someone feeding the fish their normal food items. He eats, acts normal, just doesn't swallow much of the food. So strange.

Oh no, I'm so sorry this is happening! If you don't know of any fish disease experts to contact, I would try and contact Kelly Jedlicki or Leebca. If you google the names you can find where they are now. Kelly may be able to tell you how to take your fish out, anesthetize it and try to unblock his throat, if that's what's wrong.

A couple of random thoughts:
Seems like I've read that if some fish don't get enough roughage in their diet they can become blocked or something like that and that a pinched stomach usually means intestinal parasites, but you've probably read the same stuff.

Good luck

Thanks for the comemnt, Marie. Admittedly, I did not prazi the fish. I guess it just didn't occur to me, since I got it from LADD. NOT that I expect LADD to definitely prazi all their fish. I guess my brain just had a miscommunication with itself :)

He ate pretty well yesterday, so I think I'd rather fatten him up again first, before pulling him and treating with prazi in my QT, just in case it makes him lose his appetite.

Definitely not an obstruction, as he doesn't appear to be in any distress at all.

You can use sera tremazol it works with a dip and has prazi in it
I usually give my fish a 6 hour dip with it then after 7 days the last 6 hour dip
Then the fish can stay in the DT

Is a dip going to work on internal worms? Sure, I can see it for external flukes...

I realize that :) I was more concerned with concentration and contact time as a result of only a dip, vs 5 days of prazi. Honestly, catching and moving him to the QT is no biggie at all.
