My C. marginalis

Thanks for the comemnt, Marie. Admittedly, I did not prazi the fish. I guess it just didn't occur to me, since I got it from LADD. NOT that I expect LADD to definitely prazi all their fish. I guess my brain just had a miscommunication with itself :)

He ate pretty well yesterday, so I think I'd rather fatten him up again first, before pulling him and treating with prazi in my QT, just in case it makes him lose his appetite.

Definitely not an obstruction, as he doesn't appear to be in any distress at all.
If he's eating you can give prazi orally. I've not had sps like Acropora, but I think it's such a small amount that it doesn't hurt the tank - it never hurt mine.

Likely he won't eat Jungle medicated pellet food as it's not very tasty, I'd think. But fwiw, they do have at least one product that is a nice broad spectrum "dewormer" that includes 2 other anti parasite meds besides prazi.

I don't think I have it in my book marks anymore, but if you google hard enough you can find the correct dosage per weight. I think you have to estimate weight unless you want to have him endure that, but if you have a postal scale, that will work for estimating. When I've done it, I just soaked the food in prazi - not very scientific, not sure I'd do it that way next time. Still, it did cure "worms" and never killed a fish. However mine were usually angels, butterflies may be different.

Anyway I think you're supposed to dose once daily for 5-7 days, wait a period like 10-14 days and do it again.

It's a FO, Marie. I could just prazi the whole tank. But like I said, it's really no big deal to drop him into the established, continuously up and running QT and do it there.

I've tried the Jungle pellets before. LOL, not even my tangs, which would eat paperclips, given the chance, would eat that stuff! I've used metro in food before, I can do that again for now.

I figured you were already extremely well informed, But when a sick fishy is involved, I don't assume. And I'm too impatient to ask what you already know, wait for a reply - all that often renders my posts superfluous. :lmao:

LOL, I always appreciate any and all helpful info added to a thread. You never know what others will get from it, not just the OP :)

He didn't eat much today after work, so I grabbed him and tossed him into my QT. No way am I losing this fish without a fight. I immediately started prazi. So fingers crossed. I just put a juvi zoster in QT, so I'd have to go through all these steps anyway. They can enjoy my QT together :)

Upon close inspection in the QT, it is clear that he pinched in the back half of his gut area (ie he looks fine straight on, but from the side, he is pinched just above and forward from the anus). Does this tell me anything? Otherwise, there is no sign of emaciation or malnutrition, like pinched forehead, visible spine, etc...

Figured I'd drop by and check out the progress of this thread. How goes the QT?

Sidebar: Nice H zoster

He's OK. I'm really not sure what to make of the situation. I did one round of prazi since putting him back in the QT. He still doesn't eat the way he did before my vacation; it's like coming home to a different fish.

Peter,

my dog does this when I come home from vacation, sulks, pouts and is all mad at me for leaving him.

Maybe your fish is just mad that you went on vacation with out him? He will snap out of it and soon realize you still love him :)

Quick update: I did two rounds of 5+ days of prazi, and am currently doing low dose cupramine. He is acting MUCH better...hunting around for food...coming up to the tank when I come in the room. He did poop some major white goop after the prazi... I'm thinking that was the prazi working?

Frustrating, isn't it? Glad to hear he's much better! These parasites can be hard to eliminate completely.

It really can be very frustrating. My C. collare took over a year to eat regularly and heartily. I can only imagine how long this marginalis will take, even if I get him parasite free :-/

I thought I would update. The fish has been through 3 rounds of prazi, and a full treatment of cupramine (low dose). Last on the list is metro in the food just in case there's anything internal going on that prazi probably didn't address.

Overall he's just a finicky fish. Some days he'll eat like a pig, other days, meh, he picks here and there. And he's just such a thin fish, I mean, as a species. Even when he's "fat" with a full gut, he's barely 1.5cm thick. This one's gonna be a lot of work for a long time to come, I think.

nice pics and thread!

I think I am on the fence about this fish and was looking at others that would be easier like

Declivis
Pyramid
Longnose

my tank would have soft corals like zoas, leathers, xenia and feather dusters and don't want to give any of those up

I'd say all 3 are much easier! Their safeness with your corals ranges from totally to questionable, though, IMO.
