My "Chameleon Birdsnest"

This thing trips me out - started off as a simple, regular looking BN frag back in November. No photoshop or color adjustments made, just pics taken with my phone. Last pic is from the other day.

Here are some progression shots.

There's apparently a decent gap in time between these two pics

Looks like it got happier :). Did you introduce that frag into your system when it was very young? Could be your tank matured and your water parameters stabled out.

I actually had it in a nano for a little bit, then moved it over to this system once it cycled and was ready for it. I love this piece but I'm going to need to frag it soon to keep it away from some other pieces behind it.

I have an acro frag that has done something similar. When it was given to me it was pale with little streaks of maroon and maroon polyps. I put it up high under a lot of light ( I'm also running LEDs) and it has colored up 1000 times better than the mother colony ever was. Now the entire thing is a deep metallic looking green, still with purple polyps. And the new growth is an even different shade of purple, so far with white polyps. Looks like it's much happier to me.

Did you switch lighting? The ones where it's pink have a different look to them, and when it started getting green it looks like it had a different light over it.

Great pic though, I like the pink the best. Does it still have pink in it or is it mostly green, forgive me I am kind of colorblind so if it's obvious in the pic I have an excuse.

Echo piece, I didn't really regret putting mine in there because they didn't encrust on anything and were very easy to frag, Although I could sell the frags... I basically cut mini colonies out of them and sold the largest for a few bucks and recycled the frags.

I tried to put a bunch of birdsnest together hoping one would take color from the other but it didn't really work. The branches grew together and fused with no die off but that's it. Still looked cool though. Here is a pic from when I had them.

Nice pics!

No - lighting is the same. I think that when I put it in there at first, the tank was still newer and since it was new, it was a low nutrient system. I feed quite a bit and the color will shift depending on the feeding.

It does still have a lot of pink, but that's more in the main branches of the colony. The green starts about halfway in the branches and extends towards the tip. All have purple polyps.

I've had that same variety and noticed a similar change in color. I attributed it to changing nutrient levels. It would change from pink to yellow and various shades in between including green.
