1.5" Crocea Clam
$160
Teal Teardrops with Gold Border, Purple "lips," fading to black mantle, electric blue striations.
In my tank for 2 weeks now...

Worth every penny?

Great looking clam!!! :D

But $160 for a 1.5" clam is kind of expensive, even with such an interesting pattern.. JMO

That is true.. :p

Don't forget, at that size it has to be fed phytoplankton 2-3 times a week to survive.

Good luck..

But when it gets a foot long then it would be considered a perfectly sensible investment. :p

That's a crocea? Nice. That kind of pattern/coloration would have told me maxima. If it is a crocea, that's pretty exceptional.

Yeah, its mantle shape and shell pattern make me agree with my LFS' identification - a Crocea.

It was wild caught, which is probably why it was so expensive.

Hey FalsePerc, which LFS did you buy that from? Dont see many clams around here, especially of that variety.

Thanks.

Hi
It is a nice clam , and not often you see such clams.
But , as Ming said I would'nt pay that much for it.
It's not like a Blue Tear Drop for example, that it's price is higher than others from the country of origin on till the end customer.
Croceas are sold by two categories Ultras(aka super or electric), and first grade.
This clam is a nice clam that was sold as a Ultra, but somewhere on the way to the end byer, somebody spotted the nice patters and put it aside to sell it in higher price.
However, very nice clam, and I hope you'll be happy with it.

It's a great clam, very very healthy. When fully extended, the mantle is huge.

There was another in the batch that had a completely black mantle with white teardrops and gold outlines, but that was $250.

My LFS prices clams individually.

from what i can see of the shell it looks like a max.. I wouldnt pay $150 for any livestock but we all have our own opinions. Can u get a pic of the shell?

No, sorry, his foot is firmly attached to the glass bottom of the aquarium.

Maximas have a mantle shape like this:

More flowing, like a tilde or a wave, know what I mean?

Croceas are more even on either side, like

Get what i'm saying?
