My Clowns Finally did it!

I hope my "B-strain" rotifers will take off for you! lol The rotifers were the hardest thing for me to do when I first got started and just make sure you keep enough to keep the culture going. By tinting the water a light green in the fry tank, the rotifers will also reproduce in that tank so hopefully you won't run out of rotifers. Since there are only about 60 fry, they won't eat a big amount but this will be good practice for next time!

Congrats!!

Rkelman: Im pretty sure I know where the nest is because I was watching them a 6-7 days after the last ones hatched and noticed the area they would go to and come out of. They didnt like it when other fish went in that area so Im assuming thats where it is. I just cant see because its behind the rocks.

Thanks barbara I hope it holds up it should they look like they are reproducing alot in the bucket.

Thanks! I just got home from work today and they are all still alive I gave them some more rotfiers and they seem to be happy. Added some prime in the water incase of ammonia

Well I just got home from school and all the babies are on the bottom of the tank I think they are dead. They where doing so good to their bellies where nice and full and it looked like they where developing more. I only kept them for 2 days. I will do things I little bit differently the next hatch and be a little but more prepared. Hopefully the next ones will do better.

Um...the first night I put a descent amount of water from my rotfier culture and I found out that wasn't a good idea since the water is dirty, but I wasn't aware of how to get the rotifers out now I am. But other than that im not really sure they where looking good when I left for class today and they had alot of rotfiers in the tank to hold them till I got home.

Oh yea I think I put too much prime in the water. They where fine before I did that then when I got home they where on the bottom. Lesson learned

I'm not sure Prime is safe. I use Amquel with no problems. I usually don't start with it even for a couple days as it takes a couple for ammonia to start anyways. Also ammonia isn't really that toxic to them in my experience.

I use Amquel, just a few drops is all that is needed in a couple of gallons of water. I've never used Prime so don't know if that would be a problem. Also, if this is one their first clutches, the fry may be weak to begin with. hard in the beginning to get them to survive so just keep trying. Trial and error.
