- been watching this all day trying to decide what to do. the clam worked it's way onto the coral which cradles it well. it moved around a little closer to the edge where it could've jumped off but stayed put.

- lights out now and i see what may be a bunch of small thin sweeper's(?) around the base of the 3" crocea clams byssus opening area. i can also see the protruding white (solid not threads), fleshly underside. the mantle is as extended as they get at night with no sign of stress there. to my eyes the clam doesn't appear to be bothered by the live sps coral.

- do i let it be and allow the coral under it to die in hopes that the surrounding coral will eventually grow around the clam for a more natural look, or remove the clam?

2nd pic before lights went on/flash. you may be able to barley see stringy things with small white dots around the byssus opening area.

I'd leave it in place for fear of causing more damage to remove it; cutting the byssal threads and damaging the coral seem about equal to leaving it go and hoping both with adjust. It would be really cool if it grew up around it, I haven't seen much of that.

- yes i feel the same however my concern is of the croceas byssus acidic substance eating thru the thin skeleton of the Pachyseris coral supporting the clam. i have another T crocea which in nine months has dissolved a good inch of a 1.75" wide solid rock ledge composed of A. cuneata cats-paw coral skeleton so i know it's a real possibility.
